According to to the Russian newspaper, Venezuela are about to buy 4 Amur and 5 “Project 636” class submarines.
The 636 class is a new version of the Kilo subs and has better range aswell as Club-S rocket systems.
Can anyone shed some more light on this deal, and the improvements on the Kilo ?

S-1000 Class
IMO they should have purchased a total technology transfer and built 9 S-1000 class submarines in Venezuela and skipped the Kilo and Amur classes all together.
Venezuela must think they need new subs now are they would not have made a split purchase wtih the Kilo and Amur Classes. Looks like the new American Littoral Combat Ships will have something to practice on in the Gulf of Mexico / Atlantic Ocean when they become operational.
