During a visit in Danmark I met a man who own a door that comes from a bomber. The story is that this bomber had a mid air collision with a German aircraft about 1944.
I discovered several numbers in this door:
DRG 1292126
ISSUE 18
MOD
587/94
1292765
342 AH
Is there anyone who is able to tell more about this door or the story behind the aircraft or the faith of its crew?
Best regards,
Martin & Mathieu

Mathieu,
It looks like it hasn’t been outside much. Could be that it was removed from a crashed Stiring and stored in a barn. Or it could have been jettisoned when the aircraft went down and found by someone and taken away.
This is all pure speculation though. I have sent you a pm as the Stirling Project is very interested in contacting your friend and perhaps they can find out which Stirling it is. It could have been a Stirling on a minelaying or special operations executive mission.
The numbers you are referring to are construction/partnumbers and are useless to establish the identity of the aircraft. They can only be useful if there are two aircraft involved which are built in different factories, then the number can identify in which factory it was built.
Cheers
Cees

good evening to everyone
Thank you for your replies.
The owner keeps the door in his house, it is not on a display.
He still hopes that someone is able to help him to find out which Stirling it was, the numbers 1292765 and 342 AH are punched in a small plate that is attached to the door with rivets ( you can see it in the centre of the door) while the other numbers are painted. Is 342 AH perhaps the serienumber from the aircraft?
I also wonder how it is possible that this door is in such a good shape? Was it ripped from the aircraft when a crewmember opened it to bale out?
perhaps some of you have a good theory for this.
best regards,
Mathieu

What a beaut find! Thanks for posting the pics.
I love the “look what’s turned up” threads, let’s have more!
Same here, keep them coming. What is going to happen with it, is it on display in Denmark?
Cheers

A sobering thought to think that someone went through that door all those years ago to meet their fate, how can we ever put that into context 😮

I happen to own an Danish book about Allied aircraft & aircrew that came down over Denmark during WW II.
Can you give me a location / region of Denmark where this incident happened ?
I should be able to provide a/c serial / unit / crew then.
Cheers

Dear people,
I have taken photograps from the door, but I am not able to place them in this forum untill I am back home in the Netherlands.
The door is about 2 feet by 4 feet and has a window in it.
best regards,
Mathieu

Not sure about anyone else, but it would be easier for me if you described or displayed a photograph of the door… Obviously you have your reasons, though.
