From Aeroplane Monthly website.! 🙁
Our ‘Contact!’ columnist and renowned warbird specialist Paul Coggan has died suddenly. I hope readers and website visitors from the UK and around the world will wish to join me and the Aeroplane crew in extending deepest condolences to his wife, family, friends and associates.

Shocked
I remember when I bought my first copy of WW and remember thinking’ this is what I have been waiting for! Interesting articles, brilliant pictures (pre digital of course) and it always seemed to reach the places other magazines didn’t and still don’t………Alan
Hit the nail on the head there, Alan. I was totally blown away by the consistent quality of WW and still read through my old copies.
What a sad loss. Goodbye, Paul, thanks for all your hard work and enthusiasm.

Very sad to hear this. Warbirds Worldwide is a fine legacy and his expertise will be missed.

Today I attended Paul’s funeral.
There was a fine oration from Mick Oakey of Aeroplane.
As we gathered outside the crematorium, the Scandinavian Historic Flight P-51 circled then made a low pass and upward roll dead on the button of 13.30.
It was a fitting send off for a good man.
RIP

A terrible and premature loss, particularly to his family.
Had many conversations with Paul but not in the last few years.

A great shock. I have known Paul for over 30 years, he will be truly missed.

I spoke to Paul the day before he went into hospital. He and I had been suffering somewhat similar symptoms in recent weeks. Mine were cured by antibiotics. Sadly, his weren’t. When we last spoke, he was a bit more upbeat than he had been in recent weeks, and was looking forward to getting better. It was not to be.
Paul was indeed one of the good guys, and I have known him for quite some time now. Although I didnt see him much after WW folded, in recent years, he was getting involved in the scene again, and I saw him pretty regularly. A very sad loss.
My condolences go out to his partner, his daughters, and all that knew him.

As another denizen of the old WW Board, then VAF, and ultimately WIX, I too would like to add my condolences to Paul’s family. I communicated with Paul many times in those days and always valued his comments and advice.
As the owner of a complete set of Warbirds Worldwide publications, I have to say they have never been bettered, and the gap caused by the demise of WW still has to be filled.

This is a real shock, and a significant loss to the warbird movement.
Paul’s enthusiasm for warbirds seemed boundless, as evidenced by the “Warbirds Worldwide” publication (still have a few myself… what a great mag that was), and he was unfailingly helpful whenever I sent him a note about this or that.
We are richer for having had him among us, and poorer for his passing. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Greatly saddened to read of Paul’s sudden death. He was a great guy who always had time to chat and share his knowledge. My first contact with him must have been in the late Seventies and I spoke to him regularly through the WW years. The warbirds and Mustang world has lost one of its great experts. With sincere condolences to his wife and family.

I am shocked to read this – I exchanged emails with Paul on several occasions while Warbirds Worldwide was still in existence (and the forums) and had a long chat with him one year on the WW stand at Duxford.
A great guy with a great passion for warbirds – thanks for the pleasure of reading the WW Journal every quarter.
My sincerest condolences to family and friends.

Very sad,
I echo Tom’s comments, I too was drawn into this murky world of Warbirds forums via the old Warbirds Worldwide site
Paul and I conversed via email regularly over the years. He will be missed, and I would like to add my condolences to Paul’s wife and family at this sad time.

My condolences to the family, Paul will be sorely missed.
Myself and many others who have replied to this thread first cut their teeth on the old Warbirds Worldwide forum, Paul was always helpful to us young ‘whipper-snappers’ cluttering up the board with over-enthusiastic posts about when this or that was due to fly etc. Blue skies and as he always said, Keep ’em flying…..

My respectful condolences to his family and friends.
Through the last several years, Paul shared with me his knowledge and data on our favorite subject, the North American P-51, and we covered the aircraft that served in Central and South America, at length.
He was a really nice guy, and I am glad that many people feel the same way about him.
May he rest in peace.

So sad to read of Paul’s death. His column in Aeroplane Monthly was always of interest and his editorship of the Warbirds Worldwide magazine superb. I shall treasure the memory of our occasional conversations. Truly an individual with a passionate interest in our sort of aviation. My sincere condolences to family and friends.
