I booked this trip during the 1p each way sale a while ago. I usually go to Dublin for the entire day, bu thave often found in the past that the afternoon can be quite boring and a bit of a let down after the morning’s heavy movements. Therefore this time, I thought I’d hop over on the first flight of the day, catch a majority of the heavy movements up until lunch time, then fly home again at about 2pm. For once, I was in luck, and the weather in Dublin was absolutely perfect! Started to suffer from heat haze a little towards lunch time, but it wasn’t too much hassle. I got just as many decent shots than I would normally get on an entire day there, so I am quite happy!
Outbound flight was on one of Ryanair’s newest….EI-DPO.
Here’s the cabin:

And a good view of the spoilers as we land on RWY28.

And then here’s a selection of movements from the day, in no particular order….

More in a minute…

Cheers guys! That’s very interesting Old Git, thanks for the insight.

Hmmmm ok well I guess it wasn’t as successful as I thought!
As an aside…I wander by looking at that airport overview if anyone can tell me what the original DUB runways were? Other than RWY28 they all look quite short.
The original main runway is the disused one which the new pier encroaches on. It was 7,000 feet long later extended to 7,500 ft. The other runway which bisects it is 6,800 feet long and the short disused runway at the bottom of the picture was around 4,500 ft long. All three runways were built at the same time and the main runway may have been shorter than 7,000 ft.
I have my dad’s old log book when he was a first officer with Aer Lingus and there are details of him practising numerous touch and goes on this short runway flying an Aer Lingus DC 3. The current main runway was built in haste when tests showed that the original three runways were in a very bad state as the foundations were cracking. There are plans now to build another main parallel runway roughly where the shortest runway is at the bottom of the picture.
Superb shots BTW!

Ah no problem mate:)
Well that sounds like fun!!! I wish my photography was good enough i would have magazine editors getting me to take pictures of there planes air-air. Just out of interest. What magazine, can we get it over here?
Josh
The magazine is called Planet Aerospace (www.planet-aerospace.com, and is mainly sold in Europe. Its acually published in 4 languages including English with over 80,000 copies selling per issue, but I suppose it’s not yet ready for the UK market.

Cheers Josh! Yeah I am flying on Air Berlin from Stansted, via Dusseldorf both ways. Am doing some work over there for a magazine editor who often publishes my work in his magazine. To cut a long story short he wants some nice shots of his own Piper, and so wants me to go up in a rented Cessna and take shots of his plane! I’m really looking forward to it, just hoping that the weather holds out.

Which ones are backlit, the one of the US Airways?
They were all taken from the same spot, but the RWY is RWY28. Therefore at this time of year the sun rises just to the north, at around 080. By about 0800 its moved down the runway to around 100, and then for the rest of the day they become properly lit. The spot is well known at Dublin, and is just on a mound round the side of the runway. It’s quite easy to get to, but quite a dangerous walk along some busy roads. It takes about 40 minutes from the terminal.

Nice photos, and somewhere I want to go for a daytrip as well some day.
Which runway was in use, and how much of a hassle was it to get to the sport you where. I notice some are backlit and some aren’t. Is that because you changed spot, or because of the time of day.

I then walked round to the terminal and grabbed something to eatready for my flight home. The flight was on EI-DLS, another new reg for me.
And just
to top off a great day, I managed to snap this overview of DUB!

Then finally, arriving at Stansted.

I hope you enjoyed these shots, I’m afraid that the quality is quite poor in a lot due ot re-sizing and compresing for the forum. Most of the full size (better quality) versions are around on the jetphotos.net link below.
Next up from me should be a thread from Luton the other morning, although I’m not sure when I’ll get time to post. On Tuesday I am off to Munich, for some air-to-air photography (if the weather holds up!) so hopefully I’ll be back soon.
