Well, we have a Nimrod R1 going to Newark and now an MR2 going to East Midlands. That’s two that will take an awful lot of upkeep to prevent them from rusting away and still no sign of the RAF Museum being allocated one?

I have checked today and this is still the situation at Newark i.e. nothing certain!

I applaud the enlightened attitude of finally approaching museums with regards to preservation of this type and can only hope that this rumour regarding East Midlands is correct.

I for one look forward to any confirmation !

Impresses me that even though the financial outlook looks bleak all over the Aero Industry, East Midlands is building a new Viewing mound at the top of the Aeropark and near the Airport crash gate (top of the Nags Head pub road) as we speak..

Nimrod offered to Museums

I understand that at least one Nmrod (serial no XV252) has been offerred to a number of museums over the past couple of months, through direct contacts from Kinloss.
This included the RAFM at Cosford (although it would have to fly into Shawbury in that instance and move by road)
This particular airframe needs a major post christmas, so the stipulation was to fly in before then.

I applaud the enlightened attitude of finally approaching museums with regards to preservation of this type and can only hope that this rumour regarding East Midlands is correct.

I for one look forward to any confirmation !

Ah Roobarb, that’s where you’re wrong. They will be used to prolong tradition…namely “good money after bad”.:diablo:

Having said that, at least it’s not the cluster f**k that Rivet Joint will be IF it goes ahead….expect an increase in taxes (more than 2.5%:D)

Might as well. They are of NO use to the RAF…
