I took my son (Joseph) and Father to Duxford today. The weather was suberb. My father decided that it was time he took his grandson on a vintage ‘plane. Dragon Rapide it would be. It has to be said the first ever flight my father had was at Heathrow (or was it Heston back then) in a Dragon Rapide.
Now as someone who had 20 commercial flights to and from Summer Holidays, Joseph was not taken with awe at the thought of flying. He did however have a few concerns which he has never expressed whilst waiting to fly previously. At the end of the pre-flight briefing he asked that the aircraft not be allowed to fly upside down.
We took our places on board and the Captain shoe horned himself into the pointy end. That was it, with a suirt of juice to the engines they were up and running and we were taxiing. So far so good, rolling takeoff and away. Joseph’s face just lit up and he spent the whole fight glued to the window.
Many thanks to Classic Wings for making the experience possible.
I leave you with photos of Joe’s first Vintage flight.

Great shots Merlin, reminds me very much of Haydn’s flight a couple of months ago. At risk of sounding like a broken record, I still reckon “Flying In A Dragon Rapide” should be part of the National Curriculum for primary school children! 😀

Nice shots
Merlin
Thanks for the shots. I went up in one of the Classic Wings Rapides on June 4 and really enjoyed the experience. As luck would have it I didn’t have my camera but your shots are the next best thing. And you had better weather. 🙂
