Veterans Day – But not a holiday

Cheers Gordon.

our beloved Chancellor and Demi-PM has just announced

Annual day to honour UK veterans

Former servicemen and women are to be honoured on 27 June every year at a series of ceremonies across the UK, it has been announced.

Former soldiers, air crews and sailors will be presented with medals at local events on National Veterans Day.

Chancellor Gordon Brown, who announced the plans for the annual event, said the aim was to ensure the contribution of veterans was “never forgotten”.

However, the day will not become a national holiday.

😡 The usual sort of half-measure / comprimise we’ve come to expect. A bit like “VE/J (Delete where not applicable) Day” last year

“Is this a precursor to dropping the eleventh hour of eleventh day of eleventh month?”

I certainly hope not… The US renamed Armistice Day as Veteran’s Day in 1954, but still celebrates it on 11/11 of each year.

We also celebrate Armed Forces Day the 3rd Saturday in May each year… for all currently serving forces!

I agree it could be alot better and the veterans are allowed to wear the medals but at least its being offerd. We have so many days for things and we seem to be forgetting our past.

I understand that some WW2 veterans are upset that the new “veteran’s” medal(lion) bears the Queen’s crown and not the King’s.

PJM

The Queen ‘graciously’ gave her consent on recommendation from the Honours Department of the Civil Service for us Vets to receive this medal but we ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR IT.

The Kiwis and Aussies are allowed to wear their PJM.

I wonder which chinless wonder ADDED this “none-wearing rule” after HM signed the instrument laced in front of her for her rbber stamp.

I can’t for the life of me believe that HM would have knowingly signed that piece of skullduggery.

The heirs of Sir Humphrey Appleton are alive and well, in the corridors of power.

35000 ex Vets have recently been awarded the PJM Medal by the King and Government of Malaysia, for ridding its country of Communist Terrorists in the 40/50/60’s but HM the Queen had to approve its issue that is the way things work in this country where men in the Commons still wear stockings!

The Queen ‘graciously’ gave her consent on recommendation from the Honours Department of the Civil Service for us Vets to receive this medal but we ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR IT. This is the archaic state of our country, but HMQEII has graciously allowed ANZAC forces to receive AND WEAR the gong.

If any of you are the slightest bit interested in the anger felt we have just started a new website this week at http://www.fight4thepjm.org/forum/ your comments are welcome
