Bit of a long shot, but I need to try and reproduce a channel informaton card for my Hunter F.4 – fits into a holder on the port side under the canopy.
I have trawled through all my pilots notes for the Hunter and cannot get a clear view of what one of these cards looks like. It is likely to have a couple of columns, one for the channel leter on each 382 box (A, B, C etc) and another column giving the station name, these being replicated twice across the card (so 4 columns in effect). There is also likely to be a space somewhere for the aircraft serial no.
If anyone has either a genuine card that they could scan/photo, or has something in a book somewhere, it would be very useful.
I do NOT need the card that would accompany the ARC-52 UHF box as the Hunter 4 was only fitted with VHF radio’s (type 1985 & 1986).
Does anyone also know whether a GUARD channel was assigned on each box, or just one? The ARC-52 has a dedicated position for GUARD.
Thanks.
Mark.

VHF Type 382 Radio Controller Channel info cards
Pic shows an actual card. This was sourced from the ever friendly Midland Air Museum.
Hope this helps. 😉

Top man! Many thanks, that helps a great deal.
Now just need to know the 1950’s/1960’s frequencies and station names for the different services around Farnborough 🙂

Apologies for not knowing what radio is what….. 😮
I’m an airframe guy – never knew what all those twiddly knobs and cats whisker radios did until I started delving into the cockpit of XF382 :diablo:
😀
Took me a while to get my head round it as when I bought the Hunter, it had an ARC-52 controller jammed in (literally) to fill a hole! Hours of reading the correct Vol1 made sure I got it right.
Being a bit of a perfectionist I want to make sure it is as representative of a Hunter 4 as is possible to get, and considering it was pretty well stripped out of correct stuff when I got it, I don’t think it looks too bad now. If you think of EVERYTHING aft of the seat rail being missing (and I mean everything; shelves, brackets, pipes, cables…let alone any recognisable stuff), and you will know the quantity of ‘bent metal’ that’s back there. That has now been completely fitted out. Apart from getting rid of the ‘GPO phonebox red’ paint scheme, I am working on the ridiculous detail (such as radio channel card etc) 😎

Just a quick “off the top of my head” PTR175 fitted to Hunter T7-T8, Lightning, Nimrod (2).
A lot of the late export Hunters too.

I had a reproduction fitted into XF382 until it went missing? I have an original one somewhere which I used to replicate on my pc – trouble is it’s buried deep in my loft somewhere and it’s unlikely to surface anytime soon I’m afraid.
The photo attached isn’t brilliant – but basically it had Channel numbers on left column, then Station name, then frequency. 3 columns in total….
Thanks for the info and pic, however I think that one is also for the ARC-52 as it seems to have channel numbers and not letters. The 382 controllers are pre-UHF days and have no facility for dialling in a frequency, the 1985 & 1986 radio’s being xtalled on specific channels. Each box has 10 channels labelled either A through J or K through T.
They were also fitted to early Cranberries so I would think the card would be the same for that.
I have attached a photo of the controllers in my Hunter in case anyone is not sure, and also a photo of the channel card holder on the port side spraybar cover below the canopy plex.
The PTR-175 was also fitted to the AEO station in Vulcan B.2’s and probably Victor K.2’s.

I’ve just done a scan of the channel tuning record card I stole from Canberra WE173 back in 198* if that’s any help – if someone will host it
Edited to add – oh ******, must learn to read before heading to loft, it’s for an ARC52 set RAF Form 4072
By the way, does anyone know what had a PTR175 fitted?
