Vickers Fuel? C*ck!

Can anyone throw any light on the item illustrated – I understand it is an aircraft Vickers Fuel? or De-Icer? C*ck and Hurricane has been suggested as an application, but it seems there are quite a lot of variations and I cannot seem to match it to another – It is a recent car-boot find and appears to be unused, still with its protective caps.

It is 8cm approx in diameter and the plate has three positions: “ALL OFF”, “A TO C” and “A TO B”. The collar below the handle is marked “D1972” and to the back of the face plate is “0841 1 DD7” and to the base of the casting is “DN3” and a maker’s stamp? of a “V” over “298” in a circle. The pipe unions are approx 13mm outside (thread) diameter and 4.7mm inside diameter.

Here is the Spitfire De-Icer C*ck, which certainly looks closer to me? though only two position, despite three pipe unions?

One input line, two output lines (or vice-versa). So only two positions.

Hi Nick – these cocks were used on many aircraft, including the Whitley. I’d be interested in it if you wanted to part with it?

Finally found a photo of an Auster Fuel C*ck online – reproduced here with apologies to the Wings over New Zealand Forum – looks quite different?

Certainly the lettering is totally different, but the valve body underneath looks different too and the spindle looks a lot longer.

I guess there must be hundreds of variations depending on application, so looks like this one will remain a mystery?

Thanks for the replies – Surprised how difficult it is to find any detailed info online – been browsing Auster cockpit shots for an hour or so, but not a Vickers C*ck in sight 🙁

Another source suggested Spitfire De-icer C*ck and quite a few Spitfire cockpit shots do indeed seem to have something very similar to the right of the seat base and a certain Spitfire spares website has pictures of a very similar one with a rather fancy price tag 😮

Finally an American site seems to suggest it could even fit a car! Well not any old car – a Ford GT40 no less!!!

Standard fit on most marks of Auster, also some long range systems on Tiger, am using one for the primer selector on the Dragon

These valves were not just used for fuel! The part number for the valve will determine its use. Some of these are air c0cks. I have seen them fitted in a lot of different applications from certain Mks of Auster to the Lysander, post war airliners and on ground equipment. They were never fitted to the Hurricane.

It’s called a fuel ****! Ok, worth a try!
I have a few of these that came from 14MU.
I would be interested to know too.

Pete
