Vickers Funbus

For those of you who got to the briefings section of FP this month you’ll know that Sywell has just purchased a rather fab Vickers Funbus rep…should be delivered next week fingers crossed and will post some pix when i can – can be ground run and taxied (wayhey!) and will look fab next to G-ASMLs and Blue Maxs Crate –

Anyone have any old pix of her – she was built for the Skybandits film (by all accounts SHOCKING) in the 80’s but i assume must have been displayed somewhere betwixt then and now…?

All the best

The Sandy Topen Gunbus parts were left from a replica made for the film ‘Shout at the Sun’ staring Roger Moore. The ‘Gunbus’ GBH-7 and the cockpit of another were both made circa 1984/85 and ended up dumped at Coventry with the Visionair debris. I photographed the replica’s there in 1990 and they were pretty sad then. They were acquired by the Macclesfield group and worked on at Barton.
The Gunbus GBH-7 then went to Peter Smith in Kent and has subsequently done the rounds . It’s worth pointing out that the ‘Gunbus’ is based on the flying D.H 2 as that was used in the film. The Vickers connection is tenous.

Not sure whether our Funbus is GHB-7 – tail number is A1452 and is named ‘Bombay 3’ if that helps….

AFAIK There are only two Funbus reps in the Country – that is the RAFM example and ours, however Phil tells me that Sandy Topin had one a few years ago but I am not sure if that is one of the two above two or a separate airframe ?

All the best

Crate?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Indeed! How offensive is that? (Unless he means the ISO container it came in 🙂 )

I remember seeing parts of “GHB-7” dumped in a shed at Cranfield far too many years ago along with the mortal remains of a Jet Ranger and IIRC a relatively complete Wasp. The shed isn’t there any more before anyone asks…

I always thought that the ‘Vickers Funbus’ was the VC10 😀

That’s correct.

Septic – I believe it is! It went to Barton and then Hawkinge. From there I think it headed up to Sleap or Market Drayton. There were two of the ‘Vickers’ at Coventry – the restored one being serialed ‘GHB-7’ or something like that.
