Vickers Gun Bus FB 9

Took delivery of a full scale replica of a Vickers Gun bus last night, its a stunning beast its quite amazing that people fought in these, it has a warning on the cockpit that its not to fly without a Gunner so sensitive is its CG. They were brave men no doulbt, I dont think Im would like to even fly in one without a parashute let alone get shot at.

Thanks Graham, I will contact Richard and find out where it is. Good luck with the Gun bus, it could do with some TLC.
Firebex, sounds like you had some of the “Wings” BBC TV series replica’s there as well.[

In the early 1990’s we resuced a number of Replicas from the Gun bus film and a couple of others from the far side at Coventry parked next to the Mitchell. We got them back to Manchester and started some restoration work from memory there where two Gunbus cockpits but only one set of wings and tail etc one had a dummy engine in it the other had nothing. There where also a couple of other aircraft including a BE2 and a German bi plane and lot sof other bits.
I deont think the ones we had did any taxying I think it was pulled along a big long railway track with the camera crew going alongside on another.I do wonder what happened to it all.

Hi graham.

This is indeed the “Fun Bus” that was at Sywell It was built for the film “Gun Bus” as a ground taxiable replica. It was made to resemble the flying A/C used for the film that ws infact the DH2 replica modified to lookk like a Gunbus.
Can you please PM me as I was unaware this had been sold since it was on Display at Conningsby, where that pic was taken. The Lewis Gun on the A/C in that pic is mine and was on loan to the guys at Conningsby as a favour. Richard, the guy you brought it from, phoned me several times trying to buy it and I told him I wanted it back. If it is still on the A/C can you please arrange to have it returned.
Thanks.

Is it the one that was for sale on evilbay ?.

I think that it’s supposed to be a Vickers FB5 Gunbus, not the later FB9, but might be wrong.
I seem to remember that it was built as a taxiable replica for some film or TV series.
