Hi all,
Does anyone have picture’s of the Vickers Varsity cockpit? I have a stbd side main flying panel and want to restore and put the correct instrumentation back into it. Out of interest, this panel is from a Varsity that ended her days at RAF Catterick fire school (one of three aircraft there I believe?). The panel was rescued before her destruction.
Thanks in advance,
Phil.

Yep, the pictures of the Newark Varsity seem to look a lot more like my panel. Many thanks for all your responses guys!
Regards,
Phil.

As promised!
Vickers Varsity WF369 at Newark Air Museum [16.02.09] – still configured as landed at Winthorpe on April 1st 1976.
The seats are next to receive the attention of the restoration team!
PP – I will email you higher resoultion copies later.

I managed to get access to WF369 at Newark this morning but the pictures are still in the camera – hopefully I’ll get chance to sort them out this evening and post some later. 🙂
The internal restoration work on this airframe is coming along nicely – I don’t think that I left any footprints on the freshly painted floor! 😮

Brooklands Varsity panel
You’re right, Phantom Phil, those panels do look a little thinly instrumented – for a piston twin. I would hazard that they are not the original panels, the originals having been removed and replaced by these very basic home-made items.
I have a throttle pedestal assembly in store at the museum from a twin piston engined aircraft. It looks similar to the one in the photo. I’ll take some pics at the weekend and post ’em up next week.

Varsity thanks…
Thanks guys,
It’s great when you get a good respons like this… By the way is the Brooklands Varsity in stock condition as the instrument panels look a little spartan compared to mine? Maybe it’s just I haven’t had mine out of the shed for a while… 😀
Cheers,
Phil

There’s a photo of the cockpit of WJ897 in my original thread “Anniversary of the accident to Vickers Varsity T1 WJ897”.

As promised – hi rez copy to aid identification.
Included the whole instrument panel as some variation between each side (no doubt dependant on what was available at the time). Everything there is pretty standard and pops up on EBay etc on a regular basis. In fact may have a few of them in the spares box – will check for you tomorrow.

You could try asking on the PPRune Aviation History and Nostalgia Forum.
They recently had a Varsity thread that produce loads of great pics. There were none of cockpits but with so many ex-RAF aircrew there they must have a few tucked away.

Phantom Phil,
I do not have any Varsity pictures on file but if it will wait until Sunday I might be able to take some for you at Newark.
Their Varsity interior is currently being refurbished but I might be able to get access. Please PM me an email address and I will forward any pictures I am able to get.
