Prompted by the pics on the British Eagle thread recently. Anyone aware of any Viscounts still airworthy anywhere in the world? I really do miss their distinctive sound in the sky.

Thanks for the link British Canuck.

Nothing special about that! The DH Rapide first flew in 1934 and is still operating commercially in 2012 – knocking on close to 78 years later!
Its a quote from wiki, GrahamSimons!!!

Looks like the former G-APEY c/n382 has been sitting on the ground for a few years in the Congo. Up for sale anyone interested…:D

I’m afraid the chances of a Viscount entering our collection are rather remote at the moment, we have plenty keeping us busy!

Did somebody mention an Air Atlantique Viscount…..
….not part of our current plans, but in the future you never know. If the powers that distribute lottery money fancied another big aviation project after the Vulcan (you never know, you can but ask!) then maybe something like this that celebrates British civil aviation would fit the bill nicely!
Oh Will, please don’t tease! I hope my good friend Mike Collett is aware of this thread. I’m sure if he can’t get the Shackleton back, there’s a good chance of a Viscount

I bought 2 big training manuals and engineers notes off ebay not so long back. They are a whole wealth of information!

There’s even an engineering manual on ebay:

PS. For anybody looking for a Viscount nose for a garden shed/exhibit, there is a fairly battered one at Hanningfield Metals, in Stock, Essex that would make a good starting point for a project! It was there a couple of months ago when I last looked!
The cockpit is still available, they have The afore mentioned Andover fuselage on ebay, asked the selled and they said that the cockpit still
available!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!

Of course if you purchase the twin engined Lufthansa Viscount you’ll be in the same price range as the HS.748

Albert Ross & Magalith,
Nothing to stop you putting your saved Beer money into Lottery Tickets! Hear £9 Million just went unclaimed!! Anything is possible, just not always probable!
By: ALBERT ROSS - 7th January 2006 at 11:53
Thanks Martin for dashing our dreams with the reality of hard facts! As I said previously, the only chance of this ever happening would be someone like Air Atlantique to be approached, who have the money, the operating expertise, engineers and enthusiasm to keep propliners in the air AND make a profit with them! If a Viscount could be brought back, it could be put into service on freight duties during the week and used for enthusiast charter flights at the weekend, so surely would re-coup those costs that initially sound insurmountable? Ah, anyone fancy seeing G-VISC in Air Atlantique livery?

Very interesting pics of the Air Rhodesia Viscounts.
I remember the one being shot down and at the time very sad about the fact it was a British manufactured aircraft and in particular a Viscount!
