Don’t know if this has been posted before but just stumbled across this full-length preview video on the Scottish Screen Archive website. Have bought a couple of things from them in the past – some real gems in there. They usually only give a short preview though! I understand this video isn’t the finished article but it is still good enough to run full screen. Aside from the aircraft the general shots of the airport are excellent. And it’s in the days before H&S went mad 🙂

Thanks for all the replies.
Might be worth firing them an email to let them know – they would probably be pleased to have their archive up to date
Good idea – had noticed a couple of errors in the listing of a dvd I’d previously obtained but hadn’t thought of that myself. Dates in particular must be very difficult to ascertain and I’m sure they’d be happy for someone in the know to correct any errors.
I didnt realise a jet of that vintage (1955) could do that. http://ssa.nls.uk/film/6310
Nice little vid too thanks pogno. The Scimitar doing non-catapult take-offs gets a brief mention in this previous thread, post 6 –
Remembered I had an old photo taken around the same time (1972 iirc). It shows a Cambrian viscount and G-AMOG Scottish Prince now at East Fortune in BEA livery –

A great find. To be a little pedantic, this must be at least mid-1973 as that is the work on the new runway in the background (which I worked on). The Public Inquiry into whether the runway and terminal would go ahead did not finish until 3 February 1972 and the findings were not issued until March 1973. A final objection was over ruled and the preliminary work started in June 1973 with the diversion of the River Almond and the highways order closing the B9080, Eastfield Road and Hallyards Road. A lovely piece of nostalgia though.

Great video thanks for posting I remember well the aeroplane’s and cars of the 1970’s era. And the British Caledonian BAC111 Went to Paris in one during the time many high jacking’s were going on. Great aeroplane though very noisy reverse thrust.

Thanks Mothminor, lovely record of what was everyday live in 1971. I always thought the Vanguard was a sensible aircraft that did a good job without any fuss.
I did a bit of searching on some of the other clips on the same archive site and one listed as ,Catapult Launch Tests, shows the prototype DH110/Sea Vixen and a Scimitar doing take off’s and landings on a carrier but some of the take off’s appear to be done without catapult. I didnt realise a jet of that vintage (1955) could do that. http://ssa.nls.uk/film/6310

Yes lovely vid thanks MM 😀 – took me back to my ‘yoof’ !
Lovely to see and hear a Vanguard and also the slight ‘PIO’ on the puddle jumper 😀
Without looking very hard at the carpark – saw a SAAB estate and a Sunbeam H120

Wonderful – Viscount, Vanguard and 111, the Terminal Building, luggage on the flat-bed truck (where are the hi-viz jackets??) – that all takes me back and I love the car park shots!! A few classics parked there. Many thanks for sharing it.

A typical day at Turnhouse in 1971. Weather hasnt changed in 44 years but the whole airport has.

Cracking find – the seeds of the ‘new’ EDI just beginning to take root in the background!
