I’ve been to Khodynka most years since 1993 – when it was an excellent museum with lots of ex-operational types (unlike Monino which is mainly one-offs and prototypes)

Some of my pics from 2006…….when it was fenced off and started to suffer the ravages of vandals)

As you can see it is starting to get hemmed in by hi-rise development….

There were lots of unique airframes there – including this Sukhoi T10-20….

In the sunshine in 2008 – it didn’t look too bad…..

This is what it looked like from the main road……

Some of the airframes from Khodynka have been saved – the MiG-21SMT is now at the Zadorozhny Technical Museum…… (photo taken in August 2012)

…. along with a MiG-17, MiG-19 and Il-28.

Still, it is sad that such a once-excellent myseum is no more…… 😡

If I am reading that article correctly, this appears to be an illegal attempt by developers to clean out the contents of a aero/museum type operation proposed for the former airfield site to make way for a shopping center development, bit of an extreme site clearance I guess.

Interesting that they report possibly ’70 units of Aviation’ stored there with some under restoration to fly.

Crikey

I was there in 1996 and this MiL was then set up as a cafe in the back! Sad end…
