Vietnam air Museums

I´ve visited some museums in Vietnam in 2008.

The war museum in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) was due for renovation in
late 2008 or beginning 2009.
Any updates or pictures would be appreciated.

Also in Hanoi seems to be some changes in the National War museum.
Any update report would be nice.

Thanks for the reply.

The canopy is indeed from a F-105
It is part of a whole range “bits and pieces” from lost aircraft ,specialy in both war museums in Hanoi.

F-4B PHANTOM ,Bu153001 (USN 153001NH-210) Wreckage

In contrast to what you may expect ,you wouldn’t find much war wreck & relics in Vietnam nor cambodia.

Scrap metal was the #1 export product after the war.

Must be some amazing aviation wrecks and relics in that part of the world. Is it just me or is that Phantom wearing an F105 canopy (backwards) as a hat?!

In addition to the Vietnam Air Museums thread ,a few from Cambodia.

The famous temple complex Angkor Wat is located in Siem Reap.
The village holds also a War museum.
The museum is not commonly known ,even our local guide didn’t know the existance.

Main part of the museum holds tanks ,guns and small arms ,basicly all in bad condition.

In front of the museum stands a Shenyang F-6 (Mig-19S) Farmer and a Mil-8T
These are the only aviation Wreck & relics in Cambodia.
The Mig is partly stripped by souvenir hunters.

Thanks for this update and pictures.

Indeed the museum in Saigon is under major rework.
Couldn´t see the UH-1 in your pictures and Chinook “086” is a new addition.
The Skyraider is finally out of its tight and dark corner.

Can’t see any changes at the Hanoi Military museum.

Kind regards
Johan

“Appropriate and ironic…” is indeed the best way to describe the Phantom display ,considering the jet was lost by its own rockets.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, thats a great first post.
(To me) that Phantom could not be a more appropriate display. Just sums it all up to me.
