“One of our Pink Teams (OH-6 low and AH-1G high) was scouting near O Rang. The low bird radioed the AH-1G Snake and said that he needed to break off because he was running out of fuel. The high bird said that wasn’t possible – they’d only been flying about an hour and his fuel gauge must be screwed up. They kept flying the mission until the OH-6 flamed out and crashed.
Moral of the story? ——- When we recovered the Loach we found a 5′ Montagnard arrow sticking out of the belly – it got him in the fuel tank.”
Sometimes even the most primitive weapon cant destroy a modern war machine.

Our mission was to collect from the field aircraft that had been shot down or gone down due to mechanical reasons. We were a team of two aircraft, the Chinook to lift the downed aircraft and the Huey to carry the team that secured the area and rigged the downed machine.

Is that Snake Pilot by Randy Zahn , cheers mate , I haven’t got to that bit yet !!!!!
If it isn’t , which book is it from , the style sounds the same.
No matter , it’s a good read , the author has just got hit by shrapnel in my copy .
