Viewing Area at T2 LHR

Can anyone confirm whether the viewing area on the Queen’s Building at T2 of Heathrow is open or closed to the public at the moment?

Cheers!
Dean.

If you mean the tube-staff, I have never seen one outside the station. I have never had a problem with the plice though. Last year I stayed in London for school and I was at LHR almost once every 3 weeks. Never had a problem!

I tended to move away a bit from the station because you are looking into the sun. Just walk around a bit and you will find something nice. In the end I usually ended up in the residential area, near the aviation catering.

If you keep walking up the road away from Hattons Cross, towards T4, then you will come to a sort of triangular grass field. You will have walked under the approach to 27L, and the grass area positions you perfectly for photos, getting reg’s etc. for incoming aircraft on 27L
Do the staff at the station not mind you hanging about Hattons Cross?

You can still make excellent photo’s from airplanes landing on 27L/R. I am affraid there is no good place on 09L/R. If there is one, it is not accesible by public transport.

To go to the place on 27L/R you should go to Hatton Cross underground station. This is the 2nd station from Terminal 4 and the 1st station from Terminal 1/2/3. If you happen to be by car, this is where you can park. I do not know the costs of parking your car.

At Hatton Cross the planes coming in on 27L will be flying right by you. 70-150 mm lense will do just fine. If runway 27R is used, you still shuld take the train to Hatton Cross/park you car at Hatton Cross. From there you should walk north, you will end up in the approach of 27R. As a bonus you will cross the road where planes cross the road.

Andrew,

Myself and a couple of friends were planning a trip down there today – but we are still pondering whether it will be worthwhile or not. When we went to the enthusiasts fair in October last year, we were very close to one of the runways (sorry, I’m not sure which – LHR is still a bit of a stranger to me!) and had great view of air craft just after take off. But I suppose that is determined by which direction they are using the runways for taking off….

It’s looking like a nice warm day again, so we may just take the plunge and go anyhoo.

Shame the spotter’s area is closed!

Regards,
Dean.

I didn’t know the Queens building spotters sight had been shut! Mind you its probably cos i hardly ever go to LHR. Is it due to Terrorism threats???

I remember my first trip to LHR a few years ago and my spending half the day on that roof. Got quite a good film made from it on my then new camcorda. Its quite good for landing shots on 27L. Crap for 27R/09L.

I went up the last Sunday, I parked in the Hatton Cross train station car park, which is great for landing views only. As for taking of views outside the airport, i dont think there is a good spot.

Were you planning a trip there?

Closed. I emailed them about a month back, and the reply that I got was that the roof is still closed indeffinately and no time/date has been given as to when it will reopen.

I am hoping that it will be again be open in the Summer…
