Viewing at airports.

Hi,
when your used to spotting at a place like Manchester and go to a place like Leeds you think it’s abit boring. Or it can be the other way around, your used to veiwing at a place like Liverpool then you go to somewhere like manchester and you say WOW
So what about you, what airport do you usually spot at and whats the diffrence to an airport that you’ve visit once and just a few times?

Have visited LHR three times this week while working! Had to visit the Alitalia office at Cairns Lane today just by the end of 27L, shame they were landing on 9L though. Did manage to log a few though. Off to Manchhester on Monday for 3 days via Monday morning at Birmingham.

I take a visit upto Stansted atleast every week, as my house is only 3 miles from the end of the runway, about 5 miles by road. Aslong as the weather is ok, I just jump on my bike, and half an hour later I’m sitting in the approach field! It is good enought to satisfy my needs, and the odd photo here and there, but I much prefer LHR for a full day out spotting, mainly because of all the extra action. Mind you, Stansted isn’t doing too bad these days with lots of extra flights, so I never get bored any more like I used to when i was younger!

Interflug62M, where are you working now at STN?

I don’t go spotting really normally just have a look when im on my way somewhere. I remember Lydd Airport you could walk on to a fenced area from the bar to the apron and sit outside !! Nice in the summer but not too much to see unfortunately !

I have to statisfy mysels with GA traffic at Antwerp. Every two months I can persuade my dad to go to Brussels, I never went spotting somewhere else, because my dad don’t want to. The highest you can get in Antwerp is a Fokker 50 (with the wing nearly over my head) and a Do328. Anyway a week ago there was a complete white Fokker 50 coming on a charter from Austria. I don’t have a picture of it because I didn’t see it coming , I was thinking so hard that I didn’t notice the traffic was quiet. I’m not used at these “fast” approaches:). Anyone know who that F50 could belong to?

Near the runway end of 19 there is a parking spot where people watch their friends/family plane take off and plus some aviation enthusiasts taking photos, another one is the concourse of the domestic terminal where you are aloud to walk your friend to the gate plus also admiring the aircraft, then you have the international terminal where you can see aircarft arriving at the gate from the departure level and also there is a little terrace to the side where you can easily see all the gates of the southern concourse, but last but not least there is a street that its at the end of runway 01 its is about 200-400m from the actual start of the runway but this street being very quiet you can park your car on the side of the road and watch the lands fly over your head.

Dartie, there’s a great article on Brisbane Airport in the latest Airliner World

I too am a Leeds local. I usually sit at the cemetry end if anywhere for the day. Its closer and more conveniant than MAN, but having said that most weeks i do visit MAN on my way to work as i usually have to change coaches somewhere along the line – MAN over the city centre sounds a much better stop to me!

Also the place where I go at LBA gives as good a view of the planes as MAN in my view. Just wish it would get a bit busier!

Now I’m back working at STN again its mainly there that I “see the planes” But my No1 place is still LHR but I sure miss the rooftop terrace! I was well impressed with MAN on my first spotting visit last month although my work had taken me there a few times before.

I visit NCL regularly and MME sometimes. I used to compare MME with NCL, saying how much more there is at NCL. But then I went to MAN, the best airport I have ever been to, along with LHR.
