Several years ago, around 1980-81, I was given this small aluminium plate by a friend when we were both serving in the RN, based at Portsmouth. Knowing I was interested in aviation, my colleague gave me this item and I have never investigated its purpose or whether it is genuine although I have no reason to think that it isn’t a genuine Hurricane I plate. Any guidance on this item would be much appreciated.

Lots of folks collects ’em & according to the CT FG-1D folks a box of blank Vought id plates was found at the Stratford plant some years ago. You are correct there were diff types. This is a Vought-Sikorsky type. I believe also that the UK F4Us had also a diff cockpit id plates.

Holy cow! Where on earth did this turn up? I am shocked to learn the data plate still exists. It looks a lot different than the data plates Vought used for production aircraft. They were considerably larger, as were those for the F3A. However, Goodyear FG-1’s had a similarly-sized plate. Interesting stuff…

F4U Folks:

Good day!

..back to the KD431 cockpit Vought ID plate, the Book by Mr. D. Morris (pg 126) does not show a picture on the L/H of the cockpit. Is it hidden behind the throttle hand held device??

p.s Does anyone has a pic of the mod plate on the R/S aft battery compartment access door? Tks
