Vintage and Classic Turweston

The Vintage Aircraft Club held its Vintage & Classic event at Turweston on Sunday 16 September. Having been a VAC member for over 30 years I still get great enjoyment from their gatherings.

Despite the ongoing restrictions concerning the number of visiting aircraft at this location the event was a major success. There was an impressive variety of types present ranging from Jungmeister and Nord 3202 through to Jackaroo and a superb range of De Havilland single engined machines. The BBMF Lancaster also flew over en route from Shoreham and put on a very emotive display. Couple all this with an excellent array of interesting road vehicles and a good day was had by all.

Blustery winds presented a bit of a challenge – at least it did to my cup of coffee which blew over the instant I put it down! All visiting aircraft had to be away by 16.00hrs and due to the conditions hard working marshallers had to wing walk some of the lighter types such as the Dart Kitten the full length of the runway to the start of their take off run. Thanks to all who organized the event – hopefully my photos give a flavour of the charm of the day.

Looks as though the event was blessed with one of the better days this summer.

Tim,

Thanks for the nice comments on the day
Glad someone appreciated the mix of aircraft on the day – was a task getting a suitable anniversary based list of types I can tell you!

Cracking shots from the day you’ve posted.

Will you be at the AGM tonight? If so do pop up and say hello.

Sorry I’ve been absent on here but the “funfilters” at work mean I can no longer look and I’ve “nicked” M&D’s PC whilst I’m here.

Very good photography combined with rare motives (for me at least). Great result!

Very nice photo’s Consul.

We arrived just a few minutes before the Lancaster showed up as we had been at the DeHavilland Heritage Centre earlier, so stayed at the other end of the runway.

We hope to make a full day of it next year.
