Vintage MH434 Documentary

Whilst we’ve been talking of Spitfires and in particular MH434, I wonder if anyone remembers a documentary that was on TV in the late 70’s/early 80’s about her?

I was reminded of it whilst watching the TV version of Steve Connor’s excellent ‘A Spitfires Story’ before Christmas. My dad mentioned it and said that he recorded it at the time. Although I was only a small kid, I do vaguely recall it but I’ve never come across the tape with it on. 🙁

Apparently it featured the likes of Alex Henshaw, Adrian Swire, Ray Hanna & Tim Davies (and I think anyone else who had involvement with this famous Spitfire) sat round a dinner table talking about her.

I’d be interested if any of our more ‘senior’ members remember anything about this documentary and what it was called.

I’ve got a copy of the documentary, it was made by Thames Television I think. I tried to find out who owned the rights when I made “A Spitfires Story” but hit a brick wall!

Not much chance of it appearing on the DVD! (which will eventually be released along with Flight of the Blenheim!)

Steve Connor also said that ‘Flight Of The Blenheim’ was going to be on DVD by mid-December.

Never did get it from Santa! 🙁 😉

I thought maybe it was minds playing tricks! 😉

I wonder what it was called.

Steve Connor mentioned a while back that he was going to re-release “A Spitfires Story” on DVD with extra footage. Wouldn’t it be great if he could track this documentary down,get permission and release it on the same DVD! 😀

It was a TV documentary. They even had a guy from the Dutch Air Force who had flown it and also from memory Diana Barnato-Walker the ATA pilot.

I have this “Spitfire” one, too. There was another MH434 video out a few years back – I think it was called something like “A Spitfire’s Story” as well, but it was more recent.

I’ve never heard of that one. If it was made then i’d like to see it. The only old video i have is the one called Spitfire which has Niel Williams flying MH434 at the end.
