After the recent ADF purchase of 2 BBJs and 3 Challenger 604s to meet the VIP transport needs of the Australian government and visitng foreign dignitaries, it occured to me that these expensive to acquire and expensive to run VIP jets are REALLY NOT NECESSARY. Almost any major city in the world can be reached in first-class comfort on a commercial airline nowadays, I just feel that VIP jets are really a complete waste of valuable money that could be better spent elsewhere in the ADF and other defence forces. And no, this is not a “dirty politicians” tirade, and as far as security concerns go, how about simply chartering the plane? My guess is it will still come in a good deal cheaper than purchasing the aircraft outright and running it using defence funding.
What do you guys think, are VIP jets really necessary?
