This week a “new” MD80 in VIP config has been doing a few runs out of Farnborough. Caught her this morning arriving from Almaty, Kazakhstan and got a shot of her:

VP-CNI McDonnell MD-87 c/n 497767 ex DALLI/N721EW/N721MM
Yes Moondance, SBAC have their own rules. Its a bit of a grey area, as SBAC bought an ATP in several months before the show. ATPs are officialy banned (Too noisy!!!) but it was chartered by SBAC so kind of got dispensation. Obviously during airshow week and the weeks either side anything goes.
Apparently Abramovich offered to pay TAG and the local council “anything they wanted” to allow the 767 to come in here, as Farnborough is so much more convenient for his house in Petersfield. When coming from Luton in his heli he flies right over Farnborough, hence the irritation I guess.

I did a search,and two sources show it as an MD87,although I couldn’t confirm it’s C/N or history. I would think it’s ex N-reg’d from the desert.

I don’t think there’s any such animal as a B717 business jet , but i’m sure we’ll see some conversions in the near future

They are indeed. however 717’s engines are “more fat”.
