Virgin and the A380

Does anybody know or can anybody speculate on which routes VS will serve when they eventually take delivery of their A380’s?

LOL.

Boarding an A380 on a remote stand…that would take some number of coaches…and if it is raining, I certainly wouldn’t like to be a passenger. 😀

Indeed. With only using doors on lower deck i read somewhere if you did boarding and disembarkation back to back could take nearly 1hr 30minutes using 3 sets of stairs.

With buses taking about 80 odd passenges thats 7 buses!

Agreed. I would imagine that almost any of their destinations within the US would be a contender, but I personally think that Orlando would be a firm favourite for all the holidaymakers to MickeyMouseland.

Thats what I was hopeing…… 😉

LGW is to become a diversion airfield for the 380, but at the moment i would guess they would use one of the remote stands.

The runway length was never a problem, it’s generally the width of the runways that need doing along with the strength of it.

The stands at Gatwick aren’t configured yet, though the runway is long enough. Does anyone know if/when the stands are being upgraded? Can’t see much point in the near future unless VS definately plan to op. the A380 from there

There was a typically wild rumour on pprune that 1 A380 was to be deployed at Gatwick for Orlando services, but highly unlikely in the short term I believe.

According to VS themselves, it will be New York (JFK), HKG, SYD, LAX, SFO & NRT.

The problem with the Sydney service is that to do it daily requires 4 aircraft! It has been discussed as an A380 route but the fact I just mentioned means it couldn’t be done until all the deliveries have been made (and possibly more).

As you fly with Virgin, any chance of you transitioning to the A380 eventually? And if so, would be looking forward to such an assignment?
