Police are investigating an incident in which a laser was shone at the cockpit of a Virgin Blue flight carrying 153 people south of Brisbane.
The 737 carrying 153 people from Sydney to Brisbane was targeted as it flew over Stretton, on Brisbane’s southside, just before 9pm on Saturday.
A Virgin Blue spokeswoman said the captain reported the incident to air traffic control.
“It didn’t have any impact (on the pilot), but it was reported because it is considered such a serious offence,” she said.
Police said co-ordinates provided by air traffic control indicated the offender was in bush at Stretton, but a search failed to find the culprit.

But was it premeditated, or a chance event?
And what difference would that make if one of the flight crew had their eyesight damaged? What are the chances of someone being in the bush and ‘inadvertantly’ shining their laser directly at the cockpit of a passing aircraft?
