Virgin Blue To go Long Haul!!

Virgin Blue Airlines Of Australia is in the final stages of a new study to introduce low cost services from Australia to United States.
The airline wants to establish a new subsidary carrier in partnership with local investors, and by late September could apply for licences to serve destinations in North America.
Virgin Blue is also understood to have already opened tentative talks to lease either Boeing 777’s or 747’s for the proposed routes.

You mean STN-EWR or a cheaper airport for example?
Not too hard. Look at Ryanair’s first series of new -800’s with very comfortable seats. Pop them in a 757 witha slightly higher seat pitch and you’re done! It seems to be very realistic, however in reality it obviously is not, otherwise their would me many transoncinental low cost services around already.

How feasible would it be to make a profit from a low-cost from a trans pacific route. Good luck to them though

That would be very unhealthy.

Not just unhealthy, but totally unbearable.

Imagine 10 hours where your seat doubles as the lav :D. Just as bad is not being able to recline, and instead of IFE, a safety card.

well you can have people in the air for 7 hours and not feed them.

Heck, you’re not allowed to transport cattle more than 4 hours without a feed!

So I would expect a meal on board. Perhaps thats why the ticket prices are not rock bottom.

Zoom airlines operate a Long Haul LCC service

And it’s more or less full service too.

Would this be the first ‘loco’ long haul service?

I wonder how it’ll work… No frills is okay for 2 hours or so but you ought to offer something on long flights.

Imagine a 10-hour stretch with Ryanair 😮
