Talk about thread ressurection, but hey – why start a new thread.
For once I agree with Tom, Virgin Sun were a superb airline, from reading this thread I have learnt a bit about the history of the airline, answering some of the questions I had but would somebody be able to point me in the direction of a detailed history. Additionally a few simple questions – probably unanswerable,
– In total how many a/c were there?
– Where they cheap to fly with?
– Any idea how much they were sold for?
– How long did they last for? I believe it was only 99′-01′

Yes all flights were on time except for the return flight of which I mentioned, where it arrived early to LCA but had a tech fault where a filter needed to be replaced. 1/2 an hour and we still arrived only 7 mins late to MAN. And it’s true, the second time I flew with them was in July and the meals were different than the first time and as true as I’m typing this, the trays, cups, mats, and knife and fork packet had Air 2000 on them. That was such a subtle hint to the weary.
see thats virgin sun for you theyd try to get you home as on time as possible they wouldnt mess about they were fantastic.
hehe about the kids pack im just glad someone feels the same as me!

steauw i flew on the same planes as you in 1999 and totally agree. the cabin crew were fantastic so friendly and happy and they were cracking jokes all the time.
ive even got a picture of the pilot waving to me while he was having his dinner!
BRING BACK VIRGIN SUN!!!
p.s were all your flights bang on time? i wouldnt be surprised as my flight to las palmas and back were early.
in 2001 did you still get those simple meals and the mats to put your meals on the way back and did the kids still get the rucksacks? and i didnt notice air 2000 on anything
I think we should campaign to get richard branson to set up virgin sun again and buy concorde.if he would do that i would love him forever!

I flew Virgin Sun twice to Larnaca VMED and VTAN both times from Manchester in 2000 and 2001. Weren’t the cabin crew the happiest friendliess practical jokers you have ever flown with. I was deeply upset when on the return flight from LCA the crew told us that as of October, the airline was being swallowed down by some other greedy tour operator and we would never see them again:( .
Of those who did fly on them, did anybody notice that the in-flight meal trays and utensils had AIR2000 stamped on them???

BYE BYE TO THE FLYING BANANA:( !

Was Virgin Sun anything to do with the Virgin Atlantic A320 fleet? They used to fly from LHR to Athens, I seem to remember.

It’s only about £150 for an out of sequence reg.
By: EGNM - 3rd May 2003 at 22:00
a/c are assigned registartions in sequence one after another – eg 1st a/c in the “new” set was G-AAAA, second G-AAAB etc – if you want one out of sequence i think it costs you more – you can reserve registrations for example thats how easyjet ended up with E-EZJA-Z

Nice c/s! Very loud looking, but that gave the airline character. 🙂
This is just me being weird now, but dont you think that Virgin have the best reggie on their aircraft:
G-VTAN — A320 — VIR SUN
G-VMED — A320 — VIR SUN
G-VHOT — B744 — VIR
G-VSHY — A346 — VIR
G-VAIR — A343 — VIR
G-VBUS — A343 — VIR
G-VCAT — B742 — VIR
G-VJFK — B742 — VIR
G-VRUM — B742 — VIR
G-VFLY — A343 — VIR
G-VSUN — A343 — VIR
G-VHOL — A343 — VIR
G-VSEA — A343 — VIR
G-VSKY — A343 — VIR
G-VGIN — B742 — VIR
G-VIBE — B742 — VIR
G-VBEE — B742 — VIR
G-VIRG — B742 — VIR
G-VLAX — B742 — VIR
G-VRUM — B742 — VIR
G-VBIG — B744 — VIR
G-VFAB — B744 — VIR
G-VTOP — B744 — VIR
For some reason they remind me of when you see a car with a personalised number plate on their car. :p
Nearly every reg that the VIR aircraft have on them contains a word… this is probably a silly question but does RB have to pay extra for them, or is it just luck of the draw, or are they assigned to each aircraft in advance?

i think i would have cried seeing the yellow colours stripped off of the virgin sun planes…. how sad am i

Never experienced any of their flights but they stopped services in the Autumn of 2001(?) and when sold to First Choice, the aircraft were not included in the deal – seems a waste for A320s and A321s to be parked up in storage for a year and a half. My understanding being that they are STILL in storage?

Sorry I don’t have the Regns: but does anyone have any idea who the all white Airbuses belong to at CBG at the mom?
