Virgin to Mauritius‏?

I appreciate its quite far in advance, but can anyone confirm what type of aircraft my grandparents will be flying on when they fly to Mauritius‏ with Virgin Atlantic in September?

I know they used to operate the flight from Gatwick, which would mean it would be a Boeing 747-400, but for some unexplainable reason, I am now thinking that it operates from Heathrow and will therefore be an Airbus A340-600?

Before anyone pipes up and suggests that I check the Virgin Atlantic website, I already have and this was what I got back:

We’re sorry we do not have schedule information for the flights you searched for, please note that some of our flights are seasonal and do not operate all year round.

Any help would be much appreciated.:)

Is direct with British Airways (8.25am arrival) or Air Mauritius not an option? Failing that, what about indirect with Air France (6.55am arrival)?

Well my grandparents dont like travelling with BA (don’t ask why!) so that is definatley not an option, and I suppose Virgin want to keep the revenue from the airfare, so they have done the next best thing by putting them via JNB and then another airline (which carrier is yet to be confirmed!) from JNB to MRU.

I have advised them to ask to see if VS might be able to accomodate them via NBO, DEL, DXB or BOM; or if they no option but to travel via JNB, if there is any chance of an upgrade to Upper Class, seeing as they are already booked to travel in Premium Economy.

Of course this is subject to change for a few months ahead but I can’t imagine it being much different to the current schedule.

Thanks FP, but I had a call this afternoon from my grandparents to say that Virgin Holidays have written to them to say VS are not operating the LHR-MRU flights this summer and that they have been re-booked via JNB instead, which is not great because there are only two flights JNB-MRU; the first one which is only one hour after they arrive into JNB or in the one afternoon, but then they dont arrive into MRU until 7pm and will therefore miss a whole day of their holiday.

Can you think of any other options as to how they might be able to there any earlier/quicker; I’ve had a look at DXB, but there’s only one flight a day between there and MRU…:(

Well I can’t confirm anything for September yet but using the Virgin Atlantic schedule for the Heathrow/Mauritius flights up untill the end of March or so and Amadeus, it’s showing the flights being operated by A340-300s.

Of course this is subject to change for a few months ahead but I can’t imagine it being much different to the current schedule.
