Viscount TC-SEV

Does anyone have, or know where I might locate, photos of THY Viscount V.794D TC-SEV and/or its crash near Gatwick in 1959? I am aware of the photos of TC-SEL ‘made up’ as TC-SEV for the purpose of the 2006 Turkish television documentary.

Thanks for the offer, Chumpy. I have quite a collection of press cuttings, and other material, relating to the crash of TC-SEV but I’d be grateful to see any that are new to me. I’ll send you a PM later this evening, detailing what I have. If you have any others, scans of those will be of great interest to me.

Two bw photos – but
can’t say anything about reliability!

Methinks they are the real thing. Thank you wieesso. My understanding is that TC-SEL was not airworthy at the time it was ‘made up’ to be TC-SEV for the TV documentary. So unless someone took the trouble to dismantle it and ship it to the Lebanon and re-erect it there – or built a 1/1 scale model of the Beirut control tower behind it in the Turkish museum – it looks as if the forum has triumphed again. Now all I need to do is to learn some Turkish so that I can understand the posts associated with the photos on the Turkish forum – unless there is a Turkish speaking forum member who can help me here!

Think you have hit the jackpot there Wieesso, looks very period. Trust you to get a Heron into the thread but the best is the DH.86B!:D

The DH.86B, G-AFAJ became TC-ERK.

Many thanks, Newforest. If I asked the easy ones, it wouldn’t be half so interesting!

I think that the crash photo is of TC-SET. Clearly it went the same way but a decade later!

As to the “special” photo of TC-SEV, the fact that this is described as being in “retro c/s” suggests that it is TC-SEL in disguise yet again!

It does seem that photos of TC-SEV are in the ‘Holy Grail’ league!

You sure come up with the difficult ones don’t you! Presumably the photos in this Turkish forum are the subterfuge Viscount, but there is a part of the crashed aircraft.

These people say they have a photo of TF-SEV, you could ask if it IS the real one!
