Visited the wonderful museum at Grimes Airport in Pennsylvania recently. As it’s name suggests, the focus is on aircraft of the 1920s and ’30s but there are also a few WW1 replicas including a Slingsby-built Rumpler C.V used in “Lawrence of Arabia”. We spent several hours there – the staff were very welcoming and happy to chat and the hangars were crammed full of interesting airframes most of which are flyers. For anyone visiting the North-East USA I’d definitely recommend a visit to this museum.

A replica SPAD XIII is currently being built. It was great to see it at this stage when you could see the construction and the workmanship which is going into creating it –

Thanks for the links, JohnTerrell. The dogfight is great and shows some lovely views of the airfield. We actually had a short chat to Caroline during our visit 🙂 She flew the Jenny really well too.
J Boyle – what can I say – America, so much to see but so little time! It takes a lot of decision-making what to visit and what to leave out! Eaglesmere looks fantastic too!
I do enjoy visiting museums like this one and the W.A.A.A.M one at Hood River, Oregon which we visited last year. Lots of beautiful old aeroplanes with real character from my favourite era in aviation.

It’s nice to see civil aeroplanes of that vintage being celebrated (and getting some attention by enthusiasts, this forum and general public alike).
Happily, there are a fair number in North America.
A late friend flew, until about 10 years ago, a very original Canadian Jenny. It was a pleasure to see and hear.
It’s now in another flying museum in Pennsylvania…

Thank you for sharing these photos from your visit!
The museum has a Youtube account with a number of videos of their airplanes flying, including this one, shot like a “Kermie cam”, of a dogfight between their LeRhone rotary-powered Fokker Dr.1 and Lycoming-powered Sopwith Pup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqS0rUpBuhA
Here is another pilot’s perspective video, flying the museum’s OX-5 powered Jenny (which the owner’s daughter, Caroline Daugherty, soloed on her 16th birthday last year): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0GUV1c6ncs
