Vital go-ahead for Future Lynx

The UK Ministry of Defence has given the go-ahead for the assessment phase of the UK’s Battlefield Light Utility Helicopter (BLUH) requirement – and AgustaWestland’s Future Lynx has been selected on a single-tender basis for this phase.

The Future Lynx is a development of the Lynx in service with the British Army and Royal Navy (RN) and builds on the Super Lynx 300, incorporating an improved airframe, new engines and modern avionics. This would provide a common air vehicle to meet army and potential RN requirements.

A full order for replacement helicopters could be worth around £1 billion (US$1.43bn).
