Antwerp, Monday 5 March 2007, VLM Airlines has today announced that it will enhance its fleet with the introduction of a jet aircraft for the first time. The 92-seat BAe 146-300 will enter service on April 16th, 2007, and will be operated on one of the airline’s busiest routes between London City and Rotterdam City.
The aircraft’s performance will be evaluated over the course of 2007 and, if it integrates successfully into the carrier’s operation as expected, VLM Airlines will consider introducing additional BAe 146 aircraft on other high-density routes in its network. The carrier is currently assessing the feasibility of introducing jet services on a further six of its existing routes from London City Airport, whilst a further 20 destinations, all over 500 km from London City Airport, are also being evaluated.

That has to be one of the nicest liveries I have ever seen on a BAe 146…shame it is not a long-term measure.

wow the VLM livery really suits the 146. Maybe VLM will make an offer to flybe to get more:P
Maybe they will and use them on new routes from LCY that the F50 can not do. She looks brilliant it really suits the 146 and the F50 hope they stay as a F50 fleet and 146:D 😮
PS Good to see you got a password and your old user back Josh 😉

I guess its Flightline or an ex flybe 146-200.

This Friday afternoon Flightline’s BAe 146-300 G-BPNT in the colours of VLM (also see http://www.skyliner-aviation.de/viewphoto.main?LC=nav2&picid=3688 for a picture of her landing at Southend) will land at Rotterdam Airport from Southend.
Next Monday the 16th of April VLM will put her in service on the route Rotterdam-London City Airport.
People not living that far from Rotterdam may be pleased to read that this Saturday during the Dutch Spotters Convention free platform tours “airside” will be organised. During this event parking at P1 and P3 will be free, as will be entrance to the aviation fair.

May I ask who is the lessor of this aircraft, providing it is leased?

Its great news to see the 146s on their way into City, and as aforementioned they are only a temporary measure. Dependant upon the REKKOF decisions on the production of the F70 again, then we may see the 146s staying just this summer & perhaps next until the Fokkers are available; it seems highly likely they will order some F70s.
While I agree the VLM livery looks brilliant on that 146, the chances are they will receive a white one 🙁

Thanks for the clear info tenthije. I have a belgian aviation magazine from 2005 which has an article about the intrest of VLM in the embraer 170 or 190. Since nothing has been heard about this subject since then, I do believe I can conclude the interest in these ‘jungle jets’ has long been gone now.

In fact, the last few weeks a lot of new developments have occured that seem to indicate that Rekkof will give the [i]final/i] final go/no go decission this may. And that it will likely be a GO! We’ll know by then. Of course the 146 is only an interim aircraft, as mentioned in the VLM press release!
See above. 2nd hand F70s are near impossible to get. KLM Cithoppers takes them even before the “for sale” sticker is tagged on the windscreen. That’s where the Rekkof story comes in.
Cool Hope its a GO:cool: I can see VLM and KLM ordering the Rekkof;) And KLM are about to get hold off all AF F70’s?

I may not be up to date with the recent developments with VLM, but didn’t the company show some serious interest in Embraer 170 and 190 a few years ago? Did they place an order with Embraer or not?
First time I heard about VLM being interested in the jungle jets.
The owner of VLM is the same guy behind Rekkof, so VLM was always assumed to go for new-build F70s. Or at least wait untill Rekkof was officially declared dead. This has not happened. In fact, the last few weeks a lot of new developments have occured that seem to indicate that Rekkof will give the [i]final/i] final go/no go decission this may. And that it will likely be a GO! Looks like there not getting them then oh well.Did they not want Fokker 70’s some time back?

If they are, they are royally late. Two of the four F60s have been sold to the Chilean Air Force. The remaining two will remain with the RNLAF for some time stationed in the carribean. After that they will join the Chilean Air Force as well.

Anyway, I don’t mind the fact that they will add the Bae 146 to their fleet. A nice bird in my opinion.:)

Shame the BAe 146 ended 🙁 Are VLM still intrested in the RNAF Fokker 60?

I worked on the 146 project at Hatfield and, as far as I’m concerned, the 146 was the best airliner we ever produced in the UK. A little beauty to be sure!
Did you know they had to be taken down the production line tail down, because the hangers weren’t tall enough? A strange sight, with the nose high in the air.
The demonstrator used to fly aerobatics over our offices, and you couldn’t hear it. Also, when I visited the flight-line hangar, a plane would come in after flight test and nobody in the instrument section could hear the arrival. Not many airliners could do that! People friendly she was.
Glad to see someone is still using them. Looks good in blue.
