Ken Ellis will be well-known to most enthusiasts as the editor for many years of FlyPast magazine and the author of a number of books including the long-running bi-annual Wrecks & Relics series.

Ken has written for Flypast since its prototype days in 1981 – holding the editors post in two long stints until 2010 – and in 1988 he launched sister journal Air Forces Monthly — devoted to modern military aviation. He edited Air Enthusiast from 1990, writing features on subjects from Airbus production programs to South Africa’s Rooivalk attack helicopter. More associated perhaps with historical subjects Ken is now semi-retired, but still finds time to contribute to FlyPast and is in the final stages of completing edition 23 of Wrecks & Relics. By 2014 – and its 24th edition – Ken will have been compiling the series for forty years! He can also be found commentating at various airshows and fly-ins around the country, and is a great supporter of such events as the Cockpitfest held at the Newark Air Museum.

The event is being arranged by the Vulcan Restoration Trust, the charity that preserves XL426 – the ‘Southend Vulcan’ – based at ‘London’ Southend Airport, with the proceeds from the event going towards its continued restoration and preservation.

It promises to be a great afternoon’s entertainment.

With the latest edition going to press last week, tomorrow’s event will offer the chance to hear how this ‘bible’ is put together.
