Vulcan 1st Flight

Anyone seen a TV programme that aired this evening, regarding the VTS Campaign in some regions, not in mine.
Seems they are planning to have her “Back to the Skies” sometime in August. 🙂 😀

Any more news on this? Any more specific details….

Do you want an ‘educated guess’ or a cynical answer that will start the arguments all over again?

No, not a cynical answer thanks ,I was interested to know what people thought and felt, if she does fly, and for those doubters, I did say IF, I merley was researching the possibility of whether she would do more Airshows or just Flypasts… hence me posing the question earlier on in the thread…. I do not see why it has to degenerate into a argument, unless of course thats what people are hoping for, I think we are all a little more grown up than that aren’t we? to argue over what may or may not come to fruition, healthy debate and discussion instead, as I said, It was only a question….. 🙂

I’d say money and quality engineering keep planes flying, any idiot with more money than than sense can buy a plane but you cant buy skill.

Of course you can buy skill–it’s the World’s most saleable commodity–in any field.
If you have a skill, you sell it to live.
The rarer your skill, the bigger the return.

Huh…………

Quality engineering and the skills involved costs money, lots of it, I’m sure all those warbird owners would love maintainance to be FOC……

Bomberboy.

You’re not supposed to ask questions like that. Previously they threatened to scrap her if funding was not forthcoming. Does that threat still hold true today? Why does no-one from the organisation come up with any definitive answers?

Effectively, they claim that 558 was bought for the Nation, why then won’t they keep the Nation informed about any progress (or lack thereof) as a matter of course? One would expect a greater degree of transparency in their operations. How can they expect people to keep supporting them financially when the ultimate goal of seeing 558 in the air isn’t getting closer but slipping further away?

Perhaps if they were open about exactly what kind of help they needed and what they could offer in return, some further sponsorship to cover the shortfalls might become available.

kev35

Kev,
I fear slipping further away is closer to the truth than we might think.
It doesn’t matter if it’s £350 or £400 hundred grand that’s the shortfall.
It’ll be almost impossible to raise that figure without corporate sponsorship.
The longer it takes, the greater the costs will escalate–through inflation if nothing else.
I just can’t see the sums adding up.
I’d actually be quite impressed to see this project work but it’s money–as always that’s the problem.

It’s money that makes aeroplanes fly–simple as that.

Olympus – The website gives £350,000 needed by March this year. I don’t know how that affects her rebuild or ‘first’ flight date.

This figure hasn’t changed in at least a year.
I went to an engineering event probably over a year ago now and the chap Pleming, even then said thay they need some £350k in funding.
That was the last time I heard this figure mentioned, but certainly wasn’t the first!

Somethings not right there, if the figure hasn’t changed in that period of time, what will it all mean?
Has the funding stalled?
If it has and they don’t get the cash, what then?

yes – I remember the day well – It was very cold but when she taxied onto the hard standing and shut down everyone swarmed under her – and suddenly everyone was warm!

Ive got some great photos I took but can’t scan at the moment – pants!

320psi – did you fly in from cov on the dak? – I had forgot about the visiting dak – was it a planned trip or adhoc so to speak?

Hi, yeh great day, two of us LPG guys were invited to join the Walton family and a few other invited guests on the Dak the day before 558’s arrival, it was all very last minute.
We got to Brunt early, towed both of ours over to the pan where 558 was due to park then uncovered them.
The Dak arrived soon afterwards, we boarded and flew over to Waddington to watch 558’s start up and departure then few back to Brunt just before 558’s arrival.
One thing that sticks in my mind was the total lack of crowd control, like you say people swamed underneath as she shut down the crew were not best pleased, but what could a hand full of us do to stop all those people.
One guy brunt his hand on the one of the jet pipes after touching it 😮 😮
I have loads of Piccies from that very memorable day 😀 😀

After all the dust had settled and all had gone we got shots of the crew and got signed Sqd prints then we went down the pub with some of them for a beer, great stuff.

Just looked at the date and I had a flash back to standing on a very cold airfield – was it not today a few years ago that she landed at Brunty??

Spot on, a great day for all who witnessed it
Here’s a few piccies:
Waddington in the morning of 23rd March 1993

Bruntingthorpe afternoon just after touch down

Our ‘taxi’ for the day at Waddington

558 a few months after delivery

Great memories 🙂
Will be great to see her fly again, Im personally not bothered when just as long as its safe 🙂

So…anyone want to make a educated guess, do you think it will be a flypast for the first Airshow outing? or will she be static, and then take off do her display and land?
Given the insurance costs involved….and dependant I guess on when and where she flies from….and yes when….

Do you want an ‘educated guess’ or a cynical answer that will start the arguments all over again?

Which means it would qualify to fly-in to the PFA Rally 😮

That would be an arrival to watch. Little plastic aeroplanes scattering like a shoal of minnows as the mighty Vulcan turns final. 😉

Camping under the wing would be, er… spacious.

ROFL…… I can already see the pics under the post “How Low Can You Go?”…lol :diablo: 😮 😮

The cockpit is XM602 – on loan from Woodford. Colin Mears moved to America some years ago selling most of his collection of stuff another poster on this topic!
