my father rang me earlier in the day to tell me that 558 had just overflown his house (recognising the howl of 4 olyumpus engines) and said she did 4-5 circuits and apparently seems to be staying the night.
was anyone there to get pics? and better yet, why is she there and will she be doing any more flying?
cheers
Ben

Apparently the Vulcan has been repaired but can not fly until the work has been checked by Marshells. Unfortunatly nobody is free until Monday so no shows this weekend either:(

Update is now on the TVOC website.
Something to do with a retraction mechanism for a gear door. Evidently it was a simple fix but they can’t get it officially signed off until Monday. Therefore no flying this weekend. Bit of a downer as I live local to Dunsfold and Shoreham and she’ll miss both.:(
However I’d rather wait until she was 100% than see them take any chances.

If it had landing gear failure, they would still be dragging it off the runway today!
I think an update is due soon ie. in the next 8 hours or so, if 558 will make this weekends events. Fingers crossed.
Gear door closing rod problem I believe. Not an issue with parts- more a case of approaval to fix and location apparently.

I heard from someone it had landing gear failure or problems.

Your not the only one pogno they used to have a nice calender showing the dates of events but this seems to have dissapeared:confused: It looks like southport isn’t on the cards either.

So what is the snag with the under carriage? I asked on a previoues thread whether they have secured sponsorship beyond this year? Is Bournemouth still on this weekend? There is never anything posted on TVOC.co.uk!
Southern TV is broadcasting a report about the Bournemouth show and they are still saying that the Vulcan will attend. The TVOC site does not say otherwise also, so lets hope all is well.
Am I the only one who finds the TVOC web site frustrating in its content.

Says an awful lot about the current state of our defence, when the base of our supposed 24hr round the clock AEW/AWACS, or whatever the Sentry is these days, is closed on Sundays…..:(
Shhhh. Don’t tell the Russians! :diablo:

(most forthcoming displays are Sunday ones, which is problematical for operation from Waddington, because Waddo is closed on Sundays).

So why was XH558 up here in yorkshire yesterday ? when she should have been going south.
XH558 went north to overfly a funeral as a tribute to a former Vulcan crew chief. I expect that it would also have been used as a training/currency flight for the crew. Apparently she went over Ripon, RAF Scampton and Northampton on her route south.

From TVOC website –
“Due to a technical issue with the port under carriage while repositioning the aircraft from Waddington to Brize Norton the aircraft will not be able to display at Dunsfold, Sywell or Broadlands Park”

Where did that come from?
I wonder if you misunderstood may post above. I was referring to XH558 being operated from Brize for the next few weeks. (most forthcoming displays are Sunday ones, which is problematical for operation from Waddington, because Waddo is closed on Sundays).
I stand corrected.
Perhaps the States should donate some of the 3% GST :diablo:Mark.
Yep, it’s reaped more than they thought it would, £5m in fact, so now they’re going to take it off food, but keep it on fuel and electricity.

Just guessing by the fact it appears it’s going to be out of action for a few weeks.

Just guessing by the fact it appears it’s going to be out of action for a few weeks. Jersey is just over three weeks.
As to the funds, it’s no surprise that the airshow committee were appealing for an extra £40k this year !
Perhaps the States should donate some of the 3% GST :diablo:
If the airshow goes down the pan, there isn’t much left for the visitors to do now … just the Battle of Flowers… Think they’ve lost the plot somewhat.
