The display at Throckmorton was widely plugged as being the first of XH558’s final display season, and as a consequence the number of people attending appeared to overwhelm the the few roads leading in to the airfield. Having taken four hours to travel the short distance from Evesham and missing the first hour and a half of flying, we managed to see ‘558, and magnificent it was. Most pleasingly my children have had the opportunity to experience a Vulcan in all its glory, and impresses they were!

Well now-I am trying to find out who the organisers of this event were, and where they are. Four in a car and we gave up after queuing in traffic for 4+ hours and not even getting near the turn off to Pinvin. We came off the M5 at 10.30 approx, 3 1/2 hours later nowhere near the airfield. We went into a pub and found others had done the same. After booking on line surely the organisers should have made sure that traffic control was put in place. Think we should get a refund—but from whom? Anyone any ideas?

I thought the same, my “cropped” shot is from that first run past. The flying as a whole seemed very up close and personal, which made for some great photo opportunities. Here are few more from what turned out to be a great afternoon.
I parked up as the Blenheim was finishing its display and reeled off a few shots on its final pass. It looked and sounded lovely. I shot without making any adjustments to the setting of the camera so the result has bee post-processed a little!

It was the closest I have ever seen the Vulcan display! On its first run in I couldn’t even fit the whole plane in with my lens set to 100mm, talk about Valcanised ears!
