My partner and I have taken up the slightly eccentric passtime of bagging Vulcans this year – the aim being to visit as many of the survivors as possible without being too obsessive about it!! This is the 5th one we’ve bagged so far – still a lot more to go ๐

I wanted to get some shots of this one before it’s resprayed…

This is the Jet Age Museum’s example… open for visits most Saturdays for a small (or preferably very large) donation. The Flying Shack has a fine selection of cakes and beers too ; )

One that hasn’t been mentioned in these posts is the nose section of XM569 of the Jet Age Museum, currently located at the Flying Shack just near Gloucestershire Airport(EGBJ).

It soundโs as though you had a good visit, which is great news โ and well done on the shop spend; it all helps towards the museumโs running costs and ongoing development. ๐
It would be good if you were able to attend again next Saturday, but you will be asked to contribute feedback to our market research for this type of activity!
All being well I should be around next weekend to give a helping hand.
Thanks for the comments Tin T!!

I can certainly recommend getting in the cockpit of Newark’s Vulcan; I did so earlier this year with the kind assistance of Howard (TwinOtter23) and found it a very moving and thought-provoking experience.

I’m glad from other people’s replies that we’re not alone in this endeavor ๐
Out of all those I’ve seen so far, the one which impressed me the most (in terms of the freindly reception we recieved) was XM655 at Wellesbourne – we met some really friendly people and were treated to a tour of the cockpit and flight deck.
It looks like you had good weather for your โVulcan Visit!โ
On the repainting side itโs being roller-finished โ oh for a building to allow spraying!
For other Vulcan fans out there I hear tell that a few members of the public will be attending this trial presentation next weekend ๐ โ if things work out it could become a โregularโ activity at NAM! Also donโt forget the other V-Force items featured here!
Cheers for your reply!
We absolutely loved our visit to Newark Air Museum (we dropped in on the second leg of a drive home to Cambridge from Inverness). It’s a very impressive place, and an ‘hour to spare’ drop-in visit turned into a 4 hour extravaganza after which we decided that we would have to come back and do it propely another time. It really is a full day out.
I also spent nearly ยฃ50 in the shop which I’d not intended to do: there are some really good value books on offer among a lot of other stuff.
I’m thinking of nipping up this weekend for the presentation, with the hope that I might get a cockpit tour of XM 594. That would be pretty special, too.
Cheers for now…

Is there still a very sad, abandoned and unloved one at Blackpool Airport?

I did of course forget to mention XH558 which has visited me by flying over my house in addition to seeing her at several airshows now as well.

I have visited all of them in this country including the XL391 and XM569, some of the advantages of being a courier!
Now for the US and Canadian ones…..in my dreams!:(
By: Tin Triangle - 10th October 2011 at 00:10
Something I also do!
Apart from the “mobile” XH558, I’ve managed to see XM594 at Newark, XM598 at Cosford, XL318 at Hendon, XJ824 at Duxford, plus fleeting views from the car of XL360 at Coventry and XL319 at NEAM (I was often being driven by my parents who are not fully appreciative of the need to stop and examine each Vulcan!)
Quite a few left to go though…

I’ve visited 3 Vulcans
My Local at East Fortune of which I’ve been inside the cockpit a couple of times over the years
Carlisle last summer where again I had the opportunity to go inside the cockpit
And the Vulcan at NEAM earlier this year.
To complete my V collection I’ve been in the Valiant cockpit section at Inverness last summer, and visited the Victor at YAM earlier this year as well.
I’m aiming to add Newark next year, though it’s a bit far for a day trip ๐
