None of my aviation minded friends have heard this one before and wondered if anybody else has?
In 1962-1963 a Vulcan flying from Bitteswell had to make a forced/emergency/precautionary landing at the nearby Baginton/Coventry Airport. Apparantly with its nose eventually passing through the fence at the end of the runway.
Can anybody confirm or deny this story. if its true how did the aircraft leave the airfield. I was always under the impression that the runway back then was to short to enable a Vulcan to take of from the site.
Between us we have heard of most comings and goings happening over the years at the airport but never this.

One would certainly have thought so.

Id looked on that page as well and cant find anything. The chap Ive heard it from is adamant that its a true story but no one else can recollectt it or has even heard rumours. I wouldnt have thought the runway was big enough back then anyway for a Vulcan to tak off. Unless it was taken out by road? Not a small job and surely would have left more vivd memories?

The Coventry airport history page doesn’t make any mention of this event, so unless anyone knows different….. 😀

Sorry but no. If I could remember where I’d read it I’d look it up but for the life of me I can’t think where I got it from. Maybe it just sounds familiar because it’s so plausible.

Any other info you can add to the story at all?

The story sounds familiar but I can’t remember where I heard or read it.
