Vulcan (Nose) to the sky !

A flying club at Gloucester (Staverton) have secured a gate-guard for their premises, and it was moved into position yesterday.

The Vulcan nose is ( I think ) ex Cardiff, ex Enstone XM569, and seems to have been at the airfield for some time.

”Massive thanks to Waveflyer and Steve Neale today for their efforts…it was a long and busy day. The Jet Age museum’s full scale E28 replica made a special guest appearance at a commemorative event at Brockworth and afterwards Waveflyer kindly delivered the Vulcan to the Flying Shack car park. It’s going to need some TLC during the weeks ahead, having sat outside for the last 10 years but it’s still a spectacular sight as you drive up the lane towards the airport. In addition to stopping the traffic, quite literally, outside Mike and Shirley’s impressive new venture, it should help to raise much needed funds for the museum.

The Jet Age Museum is an all volunteer charitable organisation dedicated to the preservation of Gloucestershire’s rich aviation heritage. After over 20 years of trying to find a permanent home for their collection, including 3 failed lottery bids (insufficient heritage value, apparently!) the museum now has planning permission for a building at Staverton. The airport has given the museum a plot of land at a peppercorn rent and a home for the various aircraft in the collection. All that is needed now is the remaining £60k of the £270k required to complete the project. You can join the museum as a member for £10 per year or make a donation by visiting the museum’s website jetagemuseum.org or visiting the Facebook page.”

The Vulcan has had some much needed TLC and was opened to the public for the first time last weekend, earning over £100 in donations…The museum will be holding a fundraising open day on 11th September when the other Gloster jets will be on display.

It is indeed the airframe to which Propstrike refers. Kings Haulage of Bristol did the move with the utmost professionalism and good humour and I’d recommend them highly if you need aircraft transporthttp://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/253692_178969468822957_100001297159105_408391_3399107_n.jpg
