Reads almost like the novelty of the thing has worn off when you read this

I wonder if it’s overnighting darn sarf after the Scarborough/Goodwood day and returning to Doncaster via Old Warden the next day……
By: AlanR - 3rd June 2014 at 15:38
I would also assume that as it’s doing a flypast on Sunday 29th June – Old Warden, Beds.
It’s doing a display somewhere else that day ?

Ohh! Dunsfold, the place to see two Lancasters and a Vulcan in the same bit of sky. Well I can dream.
By: Andy in Beds - 3rd June 2014 at 09:29
I might see it there then.

When I saw the Vulcan at RIAT last year, I must admit I was a little disappointed with it’s performance compared to the INCREDIBLE show it gave at Eastbourne & Shoreham the year before (which rendered me speechless), but I’m sure they had their reasons for putting on a more reduced display at RIAT
Untill last year I was living in Brighton and only ever really used to go to Airbourne and Shoreham (managed to get to legends in 2007 which remains the best airshow ive ever seen) the only display that ever really bored me was the Grob Tutor…
I live in Wales now so getting to Swindon is a it cheaper, I did nearly attend RIAT a few years ago with my Grandpa, but we got all the way up there only to discover it was cancelled due to flooding… typical.

I wonder if those who find the Vulcan display “boring” or “run of the mill”, attend a lot of airshows during the course of the year ?
Do they also find the Red Arrows, and BBMF boring ?
Since XH558 came back to our skies, I have seen her twice. Once at an airshow, and once for a couple of fly pasts.
I just hope I can see her fly again before she is grounded for good. I’ve certainly never found the Vulcan boring to watch.
I wonder how quickly people would take to get “bored”, if we had a lightning flying in the UK again ?
Alan, to answer your question (I think I am the one one who has come out here and said that I find the display boring)… I go to 3 or 4 airshows a year… RIAT, Waddington, Cosford and Leuchars (sadly no more!).
I think the comments I have made and continue to make should be taken in the context with which they are meant. I’m trying to come up with example to show what it is that I mean. Last year I went hunting with Harris Hawks at Shuttleworth. We didn’t catch a great deal. I think my bird caught 1 mouse! However, I saw the hawks in their natural environment doing what they do best. Fast forward and I see a Harris Hawk in a big avery flying around. Do you think that would impress me when I have seen the true beauty of these animals in the wild? Its not a great analogy, but I think today is similar. 558 is flow today like a bird with clipped wings. I have seen what she can do, and compared to that, todays display disappoints me. We are told during the display about her fighter like handling, her massive power etc, but we dont see it. Actually, the RNZAF 757 (and airliner of all things) far out performs 558 these days – no disrespect at all meant towards the RNZAF or the 757!
Re the lightning. I only have 2 memories of lightnings fly. One was a vertical climb but the other was a sedate flypast…. So I have nothing to compare a modern lightning display too. However, if it just took off dry and tootles along at 150kts (can a lighting fly that slow)… two passes, 1 clean, 1 dirty then I would be disappointed. Especially if it had cost £10,000,000+ to get to that stage
I have tried to answer your questions as I would like you (and others) to understand where I am coming from. I dont ask you to agree with it, but al least try and understand it.
Edit * and no… I dont find the BBMF or the RedArrows boring. The BBMF is a very moving and thought provoking display and I always stand to watch it. The Red Arrows are very much be best of British, and I’m a full supporter on them!
VX927 with the Red Arrows!

The VTTS trust Facebook page has a thread on today’s events, with thousands of comments and plenty of pictures.
Seeing it fly today has brought some joy to a lot of people, aviation enthusiasts and the general public. I doubt there are many aircraft, airworthy or not, that could evoke such a reaction from such a mixed group.

Never boring seeing a Lightning fly! However its also a bit nerve inducing!

A pretty demeaning and dispiriting dialogue from ALL sides. 🙁

The latest salvo from Douglas Bader House:
As Chief Executive, I wish to make clear the following:
•We recognise the Vulcan’s importance to the UK and from the outset of their project we have assisted the laudable efforts of the VTTS team in many different ways. We consider ourselves to be among its many supporters and as such, have funded its participation in every Air Tattoo since 558 took to the sky again.
•RIAT is and always will be an international military air show. It relies almost entirely on the goodwill of overseas air forces taking part with aircraft from around the world and predominantly at their expense. This year we have been allocated a host of fantastic aircraft that, along with aircraft that are funded by important sponsors, have filled our flying display programmes on all three days.
•We are genuinely sorry that our offer to pay for the Vulcan to attend as a static exhibit and to provide, without charge, valuable exhibition space for the Vulcan Village over three days, has been turned down by VTTS. This offer remains, even though it would be at considerable cost to our RAF Charitable Trust owned organisation.
•As the company has gone about promoting, planning and selling tickets for RIAT 2014, we have not suggested in any of our activities that the Vulcan will be a participant. Our website is updated each Thursday at midday with participating aircraft when they have been officially confirmed; it can be viewed here.Tim Prince

Just witnessed this from my bedroom window

A good 10 minute display at low level, through the clouds, and lots of howling.
Just incredible.

I see the thread has descended into the usual circular argument the Vulcan engenders.
IAT will be no less busy without the Vulcan. I doubt it will be any less enjoyable for the majority of the people that attend, who will, in the main be people looking for a day out, and who have little interest in the aeroplanes themselves.
I think Mike J makes an excellent point in his last post. Sadly, it is an attitude that is becoming all too prevalent in our society.
I continue to be surprised at the level of support for the aircraft, and by the way in which they are able to keep it going. Good for them. If we are reaching a time when it is less attractive to airshow organisers, I am little surprised by that – it always seems to happen. I remember the Blenheim team telling me that they had all the bookings they wanted in the first year of operation – then nothing. The Vulcan has done extremely well for five years!

And the abusive tone of some posts here rather brings the posters down to their level.
What a dismal thread 🙁
You would find a higher level of childish bickering in a school playground.
