As lapsed member of VTTS , I still get he Emails ….It seems a big meeting is afoot , to deal with the latest round of financial woes ….
… I think the Vulcan has done an epic job since it took to the skies again ….but everlasting money pit comes to mind , & my Aviation interests have since wandered off elswhere ……

This may sound harsh, but you mention a Shackleton I would not contribute directly to returning a Shackleton to flight, to preserving one in ground running condition or rescuing one from the scrap man.
Your prerogative naturally SF, in the same way I donated not one ships peanut to VTTS 😉

Same thing occurred to me Paul, now, isn’t there a Shackleton some place that might need a spot of ca$h in the future
😀
Not the same thing though is it, yes I have contributed to the Vulcan in the past and regard it as money well spent, that does not mean that without the Vulcan, I would automatically pour money in to some other project.

The Vulcan pulled in cash from beyond aviation enthusiasts, there are very few projects which could do that, it is fairly obvious that this is likely to be it’s last season and as such many will see little point in pumping in more money just for one more season.

I’m backing you. I’ve put a bit of cash into the Vulcan over time and now I’ve got a serious attack of donation fatigue.
I’m claiming first in the queue of ‘beggars section’.

Not any more from me though. Its had its day any money members have would be better spent on supporting those that need it to get something new in the air or preserve an aircraft that is in need of cash to save it for posterity.
Its not that its the only Vulcan left.
If you have not seen it fly where have you been for the past couple of years?Hard maybe but their are a lot of hard working people out therewho could do with a small injection of cash for a wothwhile project.
Just my two penneth anyway.
Fair enough, but it’s the same argument always trotted out which makes the assumption that the people who have and still do donate would divert their donations elsewhere. Some would but many would not.The Vulcan has a cache, whether we like it or not.

I am afraid I have seen this crisis type crap regurgitated every year since they got it airborne and it no longer works
We do not know that yet so your remark is premature. And as you admit, you have seen it regurgitated every year, and every year it has worked!;)

I get the emails still too, the writing is on the wall, the Countries skint and they just cannot see it, they are living in cuckoo land, they also seem to think we will carry on paying when it is grounded to fund the school and keep some of them in their 70K wage packets. I am afraid I have seen this crisis type crap regurgitated every year since they got it airborne and it no longer works, you can only spoon feed people this crap once or twice and expect a response, after that it works against you.
The other keep it flying past its fatigue life period with the major work that will entail, fine if feasible, but end of the day it will just continue the begging regime that appears no longer to be working, they just cannot see the wood for the trees.
Once out of the air it just becomes another corroding ex aircraft amongst the rest of them, they seemed to think the country will continue funding this at a rate the rest of the countries local aircraft museums can only dream about, I also think the idea of basing it at an Airport is fraught with problems, as one of their blurbs mentioned fast taxi runs… Fine in principal but ultimately doomed if the Airport takes off traffic wise. My feelings would be to return it to Bruntingthorpe, where you know it’s got a chance.

Ceremony has nothing to do with it. It’s very much an Historic item and there are hundreds of members who don’t venture to GD, so would never have the benefit of your observation….:)
By: AutoStick - 9th March 2013 at 10:55
I dont stand on ceremony …just stick it where you like !!
By: charliehunt - 9th March 2013 at 07:14
Yes indeed – another struggle to meet the Spring funding targets. But surely this should be in Historic in the XH558 thread, anyway….
