Vulcan Open Day – Southend

I hope I’m not transgressing any unwritten board rules by advertising the Vulcan Restoration Trust Open Day on Saturday 12th August. Cockpit visits plus system demonstrations throughout the day and also a high-speed taxi-run.

Special guest pilot is Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden so we’re toying with either calling it a Taxi-Run To The Hills or 426, The Number Of The Beast 🙂 Any even more corny suggestions would be welcomed!

Gates open 10am – loads of stalls, bar, classic cars etc. Only £4 to get in – cockpit visits – small additional charge.

The Airport are charging us a substantial fee for holding the event so we need a good few bodies through the gate!

Thanks for your time!

Certainly will be – I was under XL426 this evening “helping” with some brake overhauls. By helping, I mean making facetious remarks and generally getting on everyones’ nerves!

We have a huge marquee so don’t worry about the weather. There’s also a bar so you needn’t worry about being sober either! What could be better?

Seriously, we’d really appreciate the support – the Vulcan’s an expensive old beast to run and Southend ain’t exactly a cheap home for her.

Hopefully I’ll get Bruce Dickinson to say a few words over the P.A. system before he straps in.

Just a little bump to remind everyone that XL426 will be out and about tomorrow.

Not sure at the moment – probably a bit unlikely as it will involve marshalling across the taxiway. We do have the area fenced right up to the runway threshold so you get pretty close. Unfortunately, Southend’s not ideal for spectator events but we do our best! Also if we did that, everyone could watch without paying to get in which would rather defeat the object!

Dave,

Are the Airport allowing parking on the Grass as per the Airshow ? If so its a great chance for some decent close up pics.
