Vulcan with The Blades & Spitfire

The Vulcan is due to fly alongside The Blades aerobatic team and a Spitfire today as a prize for their competition winners.

Not much info being released due to it being a private event but presumably this will be in the Sywell area so keep em peeled. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Twitter estimates a take-off time from Doncaster of 13.35

Wouldnt it make more sense for there to be an enthusiast day where an airliner like an ATR is chartered so more than a handful of people could see the Vulcan in the air at close quarters .

I suggest two potential problems:

1) a crew in said regional airliner who “the Vulcan” would be happy to conduct a formation with (probably not too difficult).

2) an airline willing to let one of their fleet fly in formation with an ex-military jet (probably more significant!)!

Tame? That’s not the word that came to mind when I saw it at Southport a couple of weeks ago. F—ing brilliant might be better and I speak as someone who saw Vulcans display in the ’70s including four-ship scrambles. A couple of non-aviating mates with me at Southport were mightily impressed as well.

What is it about the so called aviation enthusiasts on these forums who constantly want to decry such a magnificant achievement as the VTTS project?

Joe,

If you take the time to read my post again, you might notice that I stated that it was a privelege to see her in the sky, and also my wish to see her there for as long as it can be managed. With this in mind, and as one who has contributed to the trust on several occasions I’m curious as to how you come to the conclusion that I am ‘decrying’ the achievement of 558 continuing to have air under her wings.

Further to post #8 I have just been advised that yesterday it overflew Newark Air Museum on both the outbound and homeward legs!

Apparently there was a lot of ๐Ÿ™‚ and a few ๐Ÿ˜€ around the museum site!

It really comes down to who the display pilot is. Despite being the same routine, the displays from Martin Withers and Kev Rumens are quite different in terms of noise and dynamism.

Saw her at Leuchars at the weekend, and must say thought the display was relatively tame, but at the same time I also have to say that to be able to see her in the sky at all on one of my infrequent visits back home was a priveledge.

Having said that and funding apart, if controlled and calm displays mean that she can be enjoyed for perhaps a couple of more seasons, then I’m happy to bear witness to them.

Shame one of the more lively displays gets flown at an airfield with hardly anyone there to see it though.

In fact you have to wonder why they’re wasting valuable engine cycles doing practices when there’s no more displays left this year. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Carried out quite a spirited display over Cranfield shortly before this, gear down final approach and then powered away to it’s transit height. Probably the liveliest I have seen it since its comeback:)

No reports from Winthorpe as yet – but don’t forget the mini Anniversary album is still in here! ๐Ÿ˜€

Why not do a few โ€˜waypointsโ€™ for spectators or charge a fiver to see it take-off and land instead of keeping it secret? I suppose the problem being that you could see it take-off and land just as well (or better) without paying?

Well that’s the thing, it’s a better view from the outside fence, although I believe there’s usually a few bucket rattlers going about collecting any donations. The take-off/landings are never kept secret anyway.

As for the secrets with private events, that’s been done to death in another thread and there’s nothing I can add to it. I simply have to take what they say at face value.

Anyway, Twitter has reported that they’re now heading back to Donny via Melton Mowbray and Newark. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not really sure how you can have a ‘private’ event if the aircraft is formation flying over a particular area and not actually landing there.

I don’t think you can beat having a nice clear perspex cockpit with all round vision giving the pax the feeling they could reach out and touch the Vulcan just a few feet away.

Looking out of a little porthole on an airliner just wouldn’t be the same, and you wouldn’t get anywhere near as close.
