Vulcan XL391 – latest pictures

Was up in Blackpool last week, and with the camera in the boot and a few minutes to spare I thought I’d get my first (and quite possibly last) look at Vulcan XL391. What a mess she is.

Does anyone know what the pub landlord’s plans are? Last I heard he wanted to save the cockpit section only.

My only fear is that these pictures don’t show what a dreadful state she’s in. Scrapping would almost be a mercy… 🙁

THERE WAS NO ********ING ARGUMENT! ANOTHER VULCAN MIGHT BE ABOUT TO BE SCRAPPED. WHATS THE FLYABLE ONE GOT TO DO WITH IT? DO YOU THINK PEOPLE ARE HURT WHEN YOU SAY THAT? WHY DID YOU BRING UP 558? DOES IT GIVE YOU SATISFACTION TO THINK PEOPLE ARE SADDENED BY WHAT YOU INSISTENTLY SAY? STOP THIS ******* BULL**** NOW! YOU ARE BORING!

NOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO THE ONE AT BLACKPOOL? CAN IT AND WILL IS BE SAVED?

i hope some part of it survives, I’m not a fan of jets really, but Vulcans are pretty cool

ok buggerit! here’s my tupenth worth.
When I read about the latest plans to get 558 back in the air the press release plainly stated they have “secured enough funding to START work on bringing it back to airworthiness” or words to that effect…..]
That clearly states they don’t have the money to finish the job….. end of argument.

Der – One of the reasons that people here became deeply sceptical about the project
is the press releases. The instance of the one regards getting the money to rebuild her to fly or having to scrap her was clearly designed to hit the right funding nerves but didn’t do them any good in the enthusiast world.
Clearly there are two possible outcomes to the project – I am more than content to sit and wait either way !

I am sick of hearing all the sniping about the 558 situation.
If she flies, it will be a major triumph, and I will cheer her along. I really hope she makes it back in the air. If she doesn’t, well too bad, but at least somebody was willing to give it a go-more than I would have the b*lls to do.
Its easy to be an armchair expert from the security of your own keyboard and give umpteen reasons why it wont work. What I cant work out is why so many people who are clearly passionate about historic aviation seem to delight in their percieved reasons why it wont happen.

Sally B wasnt the ‘Dog’ airframe of her squadron 558 was plagued by alot of tech problems during service i believe. .

If the people who used to service 558, when it was in service where to read that, you would be learning to eat through a straw.
I personaly worked with some of them.
And finnaly, I don’t think the MOD would put a “dog airframe that is plagued by a lot of tech problems” forward as the display aircraft.

558 should, and hopefuly will fly.

Yet again it sickens me to see this a thread descending into he said she said bitching and sniping. i haven’t posted on here anywhere as near as much as some and for a while not spent as much time as i did reading the informative threads this board used to carry.Purely for this reason

More and more there are the people that seem to enjoy telling everybody else what they think over and over regardless of wether they have any evidence or facts to back up there comments. Thinking they are in the know, so what if you are, who cares. One thing i have noticed over the time i have been involved in preservation is that the guys in the know don’t usually go round telling everybody about it. Mainly to prevent this kind of speculation starting creating bad press.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion granted but lets all try to be positive about things instead for a change.

I personnaly believe that 558 will fly and the more support she recieves in what ever way the better for her and aircraft preservation in general.

This whinging about the lottery funding is a nonsensical arguement, and I for one am heartily tired of the constant drivel spouted here by many of the “anti558 clique”. The fact is that virtually no historic aircraft is put back into the air with all the funds needed in the bank at project inception, with the exception of those owned by billionaires, maybe. Often projects slow down while funding catches up.

The attitude displayed here by many appalls me.

Yes it unbelievable that with so many “threats” around Historic Aviation right now people are happy to publicly cast doubt on one of the most high profile rebuilds in the world.

If you don’t like the Vulcan or jets full stop thats fine, but when a small group has made such a huge step forward as have VTS we should at least have the good manors to offer them our full support.

Making out that the various company’s and groups involved with XH558 are anything other than 100% professional company’s can only do yet more harm to the historic aviation cause.

I’m not sure of the exact details but I believe the Lottery funds were released after raising a certain amount of the matched funding, not all of it.

I’m sorry, but that isn’t the end of the argument.
They couldn’t START the rebuild until they had raised the amount which the Lottery Fund required them to raise. Now that they have ,the Fund will release their part of the funding, which,I believe covers the whole project. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Pity someone doesn’t get the Vulcan out at March AFB back in the air, they basically parked it & walked away from it… it’s still Crown property…. & hasn’t been subject to UK weather for the past however many years. Climate at March is drier than a popcorn fart.

Fair point. May be that’s why I only come here for a couple of weeks every 4 or 5 months.

I can see my attendance going that way too.

No, Dan, sadly it’s another chance to play “I told you so” by some forum stalwarts who’ve sucessfully pissed off and driven away enough other regulay posters to make this forum progress at half the speed it was doing. 🙁

At least it means I’m forced to do some other things I SHOULD be doing, rather than wasting my time following interesting and enlightening discussions. But it’s a pity nevertheless.

Hole, doughnut, doughnut, hole. Your choice.
