Black Buck veteran XM607 which is preserved at RAF Waddington, has been moved to a new spot just across the road from the visitors centre at the side of the A15.

She won’t be around in fifteen years. Eventually she will come
up for tender and that will be her days over as a complete airframe.
I would love to save her. If I had the money, i’d build her a nice warm hangar and treasure thr last piece of the V force. She should be inside….. 😡

She won’t be around in fifteen years. The current scaling back of the RAF will
leave items like the Vulcan decidedly out in the cold. Eventually she will come
up for tender and that will be her days over as a complete airframe.

This aircraft is historic and should , in my opinion, handed over to either Cosford/Hendon/Duxford.It would be a jewel in the cold war era which ‘history’ is starting to shine on now. What state will this airframe be in 15-20 years time?

Looks like she is need of a good clean from the looks of the cockpit

Vulcan XM607 is due to be moved shortly to a Hardstanding across from the WAVE in the very near future

These are good ideas, but the MOD would have to give it to an organisation, turn it into a chartible trust, get funding and have a Falklands Museum, on some MOD land at Waddington. 607, Harrier and a F4 and some other bits (Victor would have been good! Interactive area and combine with a Waddington Visitors Centre. Nice!

607 to hendon??
Good point about her being the one that should be in Hendon but I feel that she is better at her former home??. Is there no space in the hangars that she could be kept in during the winter months??

Shame about the cockpit being stripped……
I remember being in ‘607’s cockpit…..BofB Airshow Abingdon Sept.’81.
It still amazes me that ‘607, being the 3 mission Black Buck Vulcan wasn’t the Vulcan picked to go into Hendon…
It should be under cover, this one more than any of the others…

Hi
It would be nice if they could move it over into the visitor center along with the F4 and get them both undercover their.
Still it wont happen but it would be nice 🙂

thanks for the pic 903
good to hear that she is being looked after and that the door was fixed. It is a shame that her cockpit was stripped out though as it would have been kinda neat to see her powered up again….

The door is now fixed, but the cockpit has been stripped which was OK’d by the MOD. There is a RAF chap who cares for her and does an outstanding job seeing he has no budject for 607. Indeed 607 helped out 655 this year as a time delay switch went u/s on 655, so the RAF loaned one from 607, so 655 could perform her taxi run in June.
The jet pipes are starting to go down hill, but I have a plan in the offering which will replace them for better ones in the near future. The front fuel tank in bomb bay is still there!

Hi Peter
I was told be someone at waddington that at some point many years ago the cockpit door got bashed by something and moved it out of alignment then some one slamed the door shut jamming it and to get it open again they would have to do smoe serious damage to the door.

607
this is an older pic from the net but why do they not restore her cockpit door and get the thing aired out??

piccies please….!
any pics of 607 in her new spot at Waddo?

I don’t think so, she is now over to the west of the site. As for the F4’s, dunno. I think they are trying to hide them from the accounts at Whitehall and from the US satellites, so not to breach the Salt teaty!

Is that anywhere near the E3 pan and hangers? She was parked over there a couple of weeks ago, which caused a bit of a double take. Any idea what Waddington are doing with the old F4 that’s sitting over on the live side?
