XM607 “Black Buck” will finally get a display location fitting its historic past. It is due to be put up on axle stands for permanent display directly opposite the Waddington Aircraft Viewing Enclosure on the A15 during the day of 18 May 05. The aircraft will be lifted using airbags which will be a novel sight. Its been a long haul getting the sight prepared but I think the result will be well worth it.

Any news XL391? Would be great if you could help with her upkeep!

Yeah, but realistically, what would they let Joe Public do with all this H&S
b******s about these days. I am expecting to get a ‘thanks, but no thanks’ anyway, but, it’s well worth a go, right?

I am looking to help with the preservation of this airframe at Waddington, maybe spending 1/2 days a month there, even if it’s just cleaning her!! Could anyone point me in the right direction of who to contact at Waddington to register my interest? 😉
Perhaps you should have a read of this thread, if you haven’t seen it already, as it appears, she’s in desperate need of a little more than just a clean…. 🙁

The last I remember was that the Vulcan was on the inventory of a Flight Sergant Brian Jones who resided in 3 Hanger @ Waddo. This information was correct as of late 2001, sorry, I’ve not got a contact number, that’s the best I can do. Either try to find him or get in contact with Waddo’s Comunity Relations Officer (CRO). Try ringing 01522 727838, he should be able to help.

By the way, I can’t see the plaque staying long, unless the screw slots are filled in! There are plenty of light-fingered folk just looking for something to flog on E-bay!

I think it would be the Public Affairs lady at RAF Waddington, a serving RAF officer, I believe. Try phoning the station!

XM607 23 years earlier
Here’s two shots of ‘607 I took at the Battle of Britain At Home Airshow, RAF Abingdon, September 1982.
She was open for cockpit tours that day and I can still remember climbing up that ladder and squeezing into Martin Withers seat….

Good stuff, shame she’s bolted to the ground now, but at least she’s being looked after.
