Vulcan XM655

Thousands turned out and thousands turned away as the gates had to be closed at 12.30. Surrounding fields were opened up to take the public so they could see XM655 in action. Sea Vixen did 4 flypasts, The RAF Display Jag was fast – I just saw the re heat as it left the airfield! The Red Arrows were of course exactly on time.

Runway Length

Near spot on Moggy – Wellesbourne is 912m. 655 has got up to about 120 kts before, but this time was slower due to all the new work that has been carried out. Also due to the fact that the nose wheel steering went on Saturday afternoon and was fixed over night.
Might put the brake chute in the rear for next time.

I often used to think that, especially in the Seneca. 🙁

It’s about 1000 metres as I recall.

They said the car parks were full so the verges for miles around were full as well. we managed to park near the gate and walk in.

Trundle is exactly the right word. Not much runway left. Nice to see and hear a live Vulcan though. Looked good considering it lives outside.

They did say the Jaguar was going to be a flypast so I suppose we can’t really complain about low, fast and gone.
Glad to see the Sea Vixen was fixed quickly.

Nice to see the old thing going for a trundle.

Mostly it just sat around with some fairly manky Cessnas from the South Warwickshire School of Flying and Not Paying Your Rent sheltering from the perpetual drizzle under its wings like a brood of seriously deformed Vulcan chicks.

Ah!

Thanks. Thought I recognised that hill in the background. I did my training there.

At Wellesbourne, not on the hill

Sorry,

Where was this?

You really can’t assume we know the serial numbers of the various Vulcan scattered around the country.
