Vulcan XM655 Engine Test this Saturday

Sleepy ol’ Wellesbourne will spring to life this Saturday. XM655 is due a Engine Ground Run, from around lunchtime. You can watch from the Wellesbourne Saturday Market car park, as 655 will be opposite the market site.
We have a full crew in attendance, so the crew chief might take 655 for a little walk!

I guess a few decisions will have to be made with a number of the taxible airframes being cared for in the UK.

As I guess someday it will become more difficult to keep them active and keep the next generation interested.

Hopefully she will taken of for a number of years to come,,whether that be in static or running condition….

There is a long term decision to be made on XM655 this year.We have spent years getting her to where she is today. She will never fly and we are not getting younger, so preservation is the long term goal here.
We just wish we had a longer runway so we could exercise her and get that Vulcan howl going!
She can do it, but being a 301 Vulc you have to take her up high with the brakes on to get it, unlike a 201 Vulc where you just touch the throttle and it jumps about screaming!
The crew are the best!

Sounds like she is being well taken care by her crew…

Any more planned restoration projects for 655 in 2004?

655 performed well. Carried out an engine test, shut down, checked oils, then started her up again and went for a walk down the short runway.
Crew radioed the tower to advise of the walk down the dis used, and was told in no uncertain terms that ‘thats not disused’ by ATC!
XM655 is ready to rock and roll for its public outing on June 20th.

Wasn’t there but John my instructor (whose Dad iirc worked on the Vulcan development programme) said it did get out and ran it’s engines for a bit.

Go into Wellesbourne Aviation and accuse the instructors of being sleepy ! 😮

It’s very active thankyou 🙂

Might be there. Got some website work to do and given current forecast for booked Sunday predicts rain, I may hang around for a cancellation and insist on that hour with an instructor.
