W.S. Leyland, Fleet Air Arm

Dear All

the museum has just been donated a lovely wartime FAA observers uniform tunic -all we know about the owner is that his name was William S Leyland, he served for some time at Scapa Flow then in the Pacific – (there is Burma Star medal ribbon with the usual Freeman Hardy & Willis on the tunic) by repute on Swordfish then Avengers/Tarpon

Any ideas where to start looking? Donor has no further information…. other than the fact that he survived his service so the Roll of Honour is of no use.

Any pointers gratefully received.

A note to the FAA Officer’s Association or even the TAG’s association might turn something up. I’ve had some success with the latter who put a note in their newsletter appealing for info. Someone might be out there who served with him.

Thanks Dave, that was kind of you unfortunately we dont have any more gen, not even his service number – if we had that I could track down his record – its a problem sometimes with artefact donations, all the gen surrounding the item passes on with the former owner 🙁

Preciate you looking though mate

Any idea on squadrons he was on? I’ve looked through the Air Britain FAA books & no mention of him there,
Dave
